The unmistakable sound of his brass BB hitting factory aluminum made Little Matt's heart soar! His head swum and he giggled out loud. The green Pinto slowed then moved on like they all did. Little Matt got to his feet and dusted himself off feeling like a big game hunter who had just downed a trophy animal.
To keep up friendly competition the boys kept a record of each hit. This was done by cutting a deep mark in a nearby tree. At the end of each game the boys compared marks and a champion was chosen. By the time Scott and Frank got there Little Matt had nearly finished marking a notch in his tree. When his friends got within ear shot Little Matt announced, “That makes six today looks like I'm in the lead!”
“Nice shot!”, Scott gave credit where credit was due.
“I almost nailed it!”, Frank
proclaimed as he sat down on some soft green moss. Another car passed and the
boys immediately fell to the ground . It was Saturday. It was summer and this
was the sport of kings.

About the Author
The author Micheal Mullins was born and raised in the rural Appalachian Mountains. His adventurous childhood was spent in several different areas of West Virginia. After spending some time in the military he married and settled on the Northern island of Hokkaido Japan. There he instructs English as a foreign language and continues to write.
