From Chapter “Forgive Our Debts”
We all have those little “secrets” hidden that no
one knows about and often we allow satan to use those “secret things” against
us. This tool satan uses is the idea of imperfection. This sometimes places a
wedge in our stepping out and being used for God.
Let me share with you in an example of imperfection
that God showed me. A vessel is still usable. The sounds of notes played upon
the piano brings awareness in my spirit in the anointing of praise unto God.
There is not a greater honor than for me to place my fingers upon the keys of
ebony and ivory filling the air with music in worship unto Him. Nothing less
than creating the sounds of harmony into perfection was acceptable to me.
One day the idea to use my piano music for a church
radio program was presented to me. I accepted this challenge with the idea that
this would be used as a back ground music only later to find out the purpose
was for a section of the broadcast, with a personal interview.
Arrangements were made and the music was recorded.
The keys responded as I wanted except for three notes in one song. The playback
of the tape made me sick for it was not perfect and was totally unacceptable to
me. Time did not allow for another taping and I made the decision this tape
could not be used.
Then God began His molding and instruction about
imperfections. God has birthed in all of us gifts and abilities to be used for
His Glory–boldness, wisdom, testimonies, encouragement, nurturing of and listening
to others, sharing, supporting, prayer, music, silence in presenting peace–just
some of the instruments placed in the strength of The Church. No one talent
being of greater value than another.
Satan tries every tool he can use to remove us from
this strength in structure, including the reminder of mistakes and
imperfections. This wedge often keeps us from using what God has given us.
Those “secret” behaviors continue as a reminder we are not perfect enough as we
view how satan sees us, not how God sees us. A reminder to be thrown back to
satan is God sees a perfect heart, not a perfect life. A perfect heart not
perfect performance. God uses us mistakes and all.
Because of this I was able to surrender unto God and
give my permission for the recorded tape to be used as it was. I know this was
a learning experience God intended, just for me, related to the fact that the
tape was not used as planned except to plant seeds of knowledge in me. These
three sour notes, called mistakes, did not stop the use of my talent unless I
stopped it. These mistakes were used as a learning tool by my choice to step
through the mistakes and walk forward.
The healing of guilt and imperfection is placed in
our hands when choices are made to march forward into the avenues of self
forgiveness. When God is able to look beyond our faults, why are we often not
able to look beyond, also? This includes the faults of others. We are all in
the process of being molded into who we can be.
We can’t step out and walk forward if busy looking
behind us. Yesterday never meets the tomorrow. Often our greatest weakness is
our greatest strength. There is nothing wrong with mistakes, it is where we
place them that keeps us going forward or looking behind. Lot’s wife was turned
into a pillar of salt–turned into that of no value–when she was unable to leave
the past behind her.
Philippians
3:13-14
Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind,
and reaching forth unto those things which are before, 14 I press toward
the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
Luke 17:31-32
In that day, he which shall be upon the housetop, and his stuff in the house,
let him not come down to take it away: and he that is in the field, let him likewise not return back. 32 Remember Lot's wife. 33 Whosoever
shall seek to save his life shall lose it; and whosoever shall lose his life
shall preserve it.
God does expect us to be the best we can be and work
toward a set goal of being better. Like Lot’s wife was given instruction and
did not remain in obedience to continue forward. Imperfections, behaviors, and
mistakes are choices we sometimes make in error. Just like a cup with a chip at
the top edge, it is not perfect, yet still is able to hold liquid as it was
designed for. God created us with a free will and in His calculation,
allowances for humanity are placed in the equation to equal forgiven. There is
nothing done too big or too small that the blood of Jesus does not cover as we
daily cleanse our hearts. Jesus gave His life sustaining existence, all His
Blood, for us. Accomplishment of our perfection is through the blood. When we
believe satan’s lies, are we are saying that Jesus blood was not sufficient for
us, that we need better than God’s ultimate sacrifice? We can stay on the
potter’s wheel as the edges are smoothed by The Word of God or we can keep
looking at the mistakes we made. Forgiveness from God is joined with self
forgiveness. Molding a vessel comes from the hands of the Master that uses both of
the ingredients; clay (self forgiveness) and water (God’s forgiveness
through the steps of salvation), to create the molded image of the words “It is
finished” Proclaimed are we into that mold of the Christ in us.
Galatians 2:16
& 21
Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith
of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be
justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the
works of the law shall no flesh be justified. 21 I do not frustrate th
