She glanced at the clock and saw
it was getting closer for her to go on her 1st date with Mr.
Wonderful. “Hello my sweet princess” a
very deep voice said on the other end of the telephone, I’ll be picking you up
at 8pm sharp so make sure you are ready.
I will be ready said Autumn as she smiled into the phone as if her one
and only dream guy could see her face.
She started to nervously get dressed.
Autumn remembers all to clear how superb her life had started off. For the pass six weeks, Autumn and Mr.
Wonderful had constantly went out to romantic dinners, late night movies and
for exciting rides all around town on Mr. Wonderful’s motorcycle. Autumn had never had so much fun or ever
been so happy in all her life she thought to herself as she laid across her bed
one afternoon wondering what plans did Mr. Wonderful have for their evening
this time. Just then, she realized the phone hadn’t rung all day and it was now
almost 4 o’clock in the afternoon.
Surely, Mr. Wonderful would have called by now thought Autumn as she began
to feel strange and having the notion that something might have been wrong. She
decided she would get dressed and sit outside on the front steps of her
building to wait for Mr. Wonderful like she have done so many other times
before. She would know his presence was
near when she would hear his noisy motorcycle.
He probably got held up due to taking care of some business she began to
think as she started downstairs and on her way out of the building. It was now well over two hours that she had
been sitting outside. She knew she
could not call him because he never got a telephone put in the one room he had
been staying in since he’d got in town.
She had always waited for him to call or come riding down the street on
his motorcycle, but this time he didn’t call or come. While sitting on the front steps of her apartment building, many
thoughts started to click in her mind.
It made her realized that dating and getting to know Mr. Wonderful had
shown her that life could be dangerous if you choose to live it that way. It was now many years that had passed since
all this had happened she visualized while now finding herself lying in a
hospital bed in a semi-conscious state.
She now thought about why she was trying to hold on to dear life. She knew it was because she wanted to make
sure all her daughters would have a better life, unlike herself. Although her children were now living their
own lives, Autumn always wanted them to be close knit with one-another.
She knew disagreements would
sometimes be among them but she made sure they understood the seriousness of
forgiveness. She tried to hold on to
the last pieces of her life while lying in a hospital bed as everything started
to go blank right before her eyes. She
was slowly slipping away from it all.
When her youngest daughter received a telegram, she cried
uncontrolling’ly as she started to read a portion of the letter which said: “We
are making funeral arrangements and hoping to find a way for you all to come
back home to be in attendance for the service.” As she continued reading, the next words were heart-broken as it
said: “Here lies a Bleeding heart purchased from all of us who are the eight
sisters. We wish our mother Autumn a
peaceful farewell.” So many deaths, so
little time and now it was Autumn.
Autumn was the one that held everything together. She was the one that always-wanted things
right. It just wasn’t her time to go,
but she was gone forever. The only
memory left was the offspring of her children.
Before she died, her children remembered her always saying how her life
had been like taking a ride on an unsecured airplane. She described how you’d be sitting on the plane all strapped into
your seat while watching out the window as the plane speeded down the runway
and on it’s way up into the sky.
Finally, just when you thought it was going to be a smooth ride, you
start to feel the turbulence which started to make the ride feel very
bumpy. Then, when it was time for the
plan to land, there was just no designated place for it to go. What had gone wrong? Before Autumn’s children really understood
what she was talking about, they imagine it had to be a very scary journey to
know you were flying but unable to land.
Lastly, they knew why she thought this way. It was from the wobbly life she had. Her ride had now come to an end.
All the searching, all the wrong choices and all what seemed like
fantasy trips that Autumn had been on were now over. To show their mother they knew and felt the pain she’d been
through, they got together to discuss purchasing a tomb stone which read: “Here
lies our mother Autumn who’s now safely landed in peace. Her life is over and she’s now been set
free. If she had any last words to say,
surely she would say: ‘WHAT A
FLIGHT’. From that day on, her children
now knew why she always stressed the urgency for them to live their life with
dignity and to stand for what they believed in. Finally, it was over for their mother and the lady better known
as Autumn.
