About the Book

This retrospective memoir is a story of triumph and victory in the face of unbelievable challenges.  It tells of the daunting experiences which have shaped my life and forced me to grow into a strong Black woman in spite of myself!  It is a book about doubts, fears and crippling anxieties transformed by necessity, into learning about, developing and practicing an abiding faith in the tremendous God power within, which when accessed, can overcome what often seems to be insurmountable obstacles.  Miracles, last minute deliverances, unbelievable interventions from the invisible world rescued me over and over and over again, when it appeared that all was lost and defeat inevitable.

Finally, there is the recounting of my six year journey with a son who developed AIDS and what that experience taught me. The lesson learned, especially during the last months of his life, was about every soul’s unique right to choose its own destiny; and for loved ones even through their pain, to be supportive of that choice.

Dear reader, I pray that my story of spiritual discovery and growth, will inspire and encourage you to plumb your own depths and deepen your faith in the God self that dwells in you, that loves you unconditionally and stands at the ready, to bless you and meet your every need.

About the Author

Dr. Vida. M. Gaynor, at age 76, is currently awaiting with much anticipation, life’s next assignment!   Born in 1926, reared and educated in New York, she married at age 17 and gave birth to two sons. Several years later, a university level certificate in accounting enabled her to become a public accountant and over an 18 year period she held a number of very responsible positions in New York. Involvement in the civil rights movement in the United States, coupled with an interest in the decolonization movements in Africa, led her to Tanzania, East Africa where for 6 years she worked as the country’s first female accountant.  A series of stunning spiritual experiences brought her back to the United States in 1976, entry into graduate school and a Ph.D in clinical psychology.

Dr. Gaynor retired after 9 years as a staff psychologist in a Maryland psychiatric hospital, to operate a part-time clinical practice; produce motivational videos for children; and work with non-profit organizations dedicated to the education and health of Black people here and in Africa. After the death of her younger son in 2002, she moved to Jackson, MS., where her surviving son and family, as well as her adult twin grandsons reside.
