The driver called, "Whoa!" stopping the twelve seated wagon. The side flaps were rolled up to the very top of the conveyance since it was a nice warm day.
I, Nellie Farmer, stepped into the horse drawn trolley along with six excited, giggling teenage girls, all of us were headed for Plantation House where the Grover School for Girls was housed.
I personally will be housed on the third floor to see that all the girls keep to a schedule and adhere to the school rules. I will be sleeping right inside the only exit door to ensure that everyone is in bed by nine p.m. and that none left the floor until six a.m. This is the hour that everyone begins their toilette, helping each other to braid their long hair and put in the ribbons and help each other fasten their back buttons on their three quarter length dresses about mid-calf.
All the dresses are gray, high necked, three quarter sleeves with fitted tops and full skirted. All shoes are black flat heeled and have a shiny buckle across the top.
I have been told Master John's daughter Willow, is very beautiful of face but very deformed from an accident she was involved in when her mother Bess, was trying to outrun Master John as he tried to overtake her and their four year old daughter. The brougham overturned, killing Mrs. Grover and severely injuring Willow. Bones had been broken in her shoulder, left arm and her thigh. The shoulder never healed properly. The bones were never set and kept in place so they could heal straight. When Willow was seven she suffered a stroke that caused paralysis and her upper arm muscles to twist into an ugly bulge on her already deformed shoulder. Her left thigh turned outward and her left calf and foot turned inward. Still her face was beautiful and both hands were long, slender and beautifully shaped.
Willow loved music and played several instruments. Master John supplied her with everything anyone could ever need that money could buy. She had her own suite of four rooms and her combination caregiver, housekeeper, companion. A forty two year old lady that had been a teacher before she was hired as Willow's, 'everything.'

About the Author
Born in Oklahoma, 12/23/25, she is the eldest of eight children. She married at age fourteen to get away from home. A first daughter was born fifteen months later followed by two more daughters by nineteen years of age. One son Billy Earl, was born 3/12/49. He is now deceased. At age 75 Ms. Neeley decided to try her hand at writing. Secrets of Plantation House being one of eight novels.
