“Are you married?”
“Yes. As a matter of fact, my husband and I just
went back together after being
separated for a period of time.”
I didn’t know why I started blabbing to this
stranger. He finally told me his name was Montel Bradshaw.
“Would you like to have a drink with me?” he asked.
“No, I don’t think so, I don’t know you”. What did I look like going off with a total stranger I thought?
“You pick the place,” he said. “Some place you’re
comfortable with.”
Looking at this man, I couldn’t take my eyes off of
him. What did he have that was so
hypnotizing? What was I doing, agreeing
to go with this man? I had a husband
who I just got back with. Was I willing
to lose everything for a fling?

Nicole. I thought. You are only going to have a drink with this person, not
spend the rest of your life with him.
“OK,” I said. “Let’s go.”
We went to a place in the mall I was familiar
with. We talked like old friends who
had known each other for years. I found out he was married with two kids.
“A marriage made in hell,” he said.
We had a few drinks and exchanged phone
numbers. The time flew by and I needed
to get home and start dinner. We agreed
the time we spent together was nice but it was just something that happened and
nothing would or could come of it. Our
lives were much too complex as it was.
We agreed to get on with our perspective lives and we would talk from
time to time. Now my mind was saying this but in my heart something had
happened. I wasn’t sure what but my
emotions were on overload and if I didn’t get a handle I knew I was destined
for deep trouble.
