About the Book
Among places and things and as a seeker of truth. The Aztec Piedra Del Sol (Sunstone) Mayan astronomy, memories of sacred places in the Americas. The ocean deeps, the Hopi, Zuni and remaining 18 pueblos of New Mexico and their outliers, the Dine, ancient summer people of California’s High Sierra and as a student of the Hindu scriptures. Awareness of Plumed serpent becomes evident everywhere from times unknown to the present.
Happening upon the following description in the SHEVESHTPATRA UPANISHAD, reminded me of Plumed Serpent. I wondered if there could somehow be a connection between this ancient Hindu poem and Plumed serpent? Could Plumed Serpent somehow be a universal spiritual principal? Kundalini (Sanskrit for fires serpent ), Kukulcan (Mayan Yucatec for Plumed serpent) sounded familiar!
“Know him to be the supreme magician who has become boy and girl, bird and beast. He is the bestower of all blessings, and his grace fills the heart with profound peace, know him to be the source of all, the Gods, sole support of the universe. The planter of the golden seed of life, may he grant us the grace of wisdom.”
SHEVETASHPATRA UPANISHHAD
Some people tend to think of myth history, and (science) as being in conflict with each other but the authors of the inscriptions at Palenque and the alphabetic text of the Popol Vuh treated mythic and historical parts of their narratives as belonging to a single balanced whole and to this day the Quiche Maya think of duality as complimentary rather than opposed. (1.)
Being a native of the Southwest and having some knowledge of the regions prehistory I often wondered why monuments such as the Serpent mound in Ohio with its rich cultural history, bears so little explanation in American if not World History. I wondered if there was some kind of relationship between Serpent Mound and the ubiquitous petroglyphs of Plumed serpent in the Southwest
If so, the Olmec. reclining Quetzalcoatl of La Venta (Monument 19), Egyptian feathered serpent; the bronze serpent Asherah Coatlique Quetzalcoatl and Tezcatlapoca of the Teotihuacan Toltecs , Zapotecs ,Mixtecs , and Aztecs ; Poganghoya Polongawhoya (The twin serpents ). The water plumed serpents Palulukong and Pachua of the Hopi , Kolowisi of the Zuni; Avanyu of the Rio Grande Pueblos and their outliers; Warrior Serpents of the Dine, Milky Way Serpent of the Haida the Norse Jurmundgandr. Down under, the Rainbow Serpent of the indigenous Australians, the 9 Chinese Dragons and Hindu Nagas may at least share similar attributes.
