Before I became a practicing Christian, I looked towards a man to satisfy my “needs.” I really was not expecting a whole lot out of a relationship, just some physical pleasure and someone to make me feel good. I remember the routine all too well--Saturday night, get dressed (I was usually almost naked), go out with my girls to the club, get my groove on, and look forward to next time. I sought out what looked like my type and what I believed was best for me. I would settle for only the physical side of a relationship because I really did not know how to “relate.”
All of us have different experiences in relationships but there is an underlying commonality--dissatisfaction. I knew that my life was missing something and that my relationships did not meet my expectations, but I could never name what it was that I was missing. So, I continued my search and wound up emotionally drained, physically used, and spiritually destitute. I was spiraling fast. I knew that change was inevitable. I did not know how to change, but I knew the change would begin with me.
Consequences: Is It Worth It?
Have you ever asked yourself, “Why am I still single?” or “When is my turn coming?” Or maybe you have said, “Always a bridesmaid; never a bride!” Or maybe, “I need to get married, my biological clock is ticking.” These expressions can sometimes be an indicator of an unsettled heart concerning singlehood. I have heard these phrases on many occasions in a supposedly joking manner, but really there is an underlying issue. Bitterness, jealousy, envy, insecurity--all of these can be the cause of discontent. I have experienced this with friends of mine during their special season of dating or courtship. I really wanted to be happy for them, but I could not help wondering when my turn was coming. Friendships change when people enter serious relationships, and usually someone is left out in the cold. This experience was difficult for me because without warning I had to adjust my friendship and permit my best friend to become best friends with her fiancé. I had to really look at my single state and determine if I was truly satisfied. Part of me wanted to jump into my own dating relationship, while the other part wanted hers to end. I came to the conclusion that neither one of these was the answer, only God could heal what was once covered by the band-aid of friendship. All of these heart matters and attitudes have consequences on how we view our singlehood, while also having an effect on present and future relationships.

“Single and Finally Satisfied” was written for today’s adult singles. It endorses building healthy relationships with God, family, and friends. Healthy, positive relationships begin with healthy, positive individuals. And this book encourages satisfaction as an individual, regardless of marital status.
There are several types of singles...those never married, the divorced, the widows, etc--and each type can benefit from “Single and Finally Satisfied.” Through the acceptance of God’s unconditional love and the discovery of divine purpose and destiny, singlehood can become a season of victory instead of defeat.
Transcending racial and denominational boundaries, “Single and Finally Satisfied” speaks to the hearts of singles looking for fulfillment in life. The foundation of this fulfillment, found in Jesus Christ and in understanding purpose and destiny, fosters personal discovery and satisfaction. Many books make singlehood a stepping stone for marriage. In actuality, singlehood is a season that all people enter and few learn to appreciate. It can be a time to pursue dreams and passions without interruptions and distractions.
“Single and Finally Satisfied” attempts to address some of the perceptions that create pitfalls and tries to redirect readers in a new direction. Isn’t it time you were satisfied?
About the Author
Vera June will graduate from Stetson College of Law in St. Petersburg, Florida with a Juris Doctor in December 2004. She graduated from the University of Houston in 2000 with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. Her passions outside of the classroom are writing and singing.
As her first published work, Vera is very excited about “Single and Finally Satisfied.” “After life taught me some lessons about relationships, and seeing some of my girlfriends experience other situations, I went to the Word of God for some answers to a few pressing questions. It was in this time, I began to understand about self-love and how to love others. From my own maturity and growth “Single and Finally Satisfied” was born.”
Vera also has established a summer camp for youth in Sanford, FL called Summer of Success Youth Camp that serves as a motivational and academic enrichment camp for students between the ages of 9 and 14.
