Samuel was given an assignment by his journalism teacher to find a total stranger, and get their
biography. He decided that it would be easier to have a younger person's life, and libraries always have
some college students working on papers. When he walked into the cool library, the smell of old dusty
books and mold hit his nose and made him nauseous. Even though it was an early Tuesday morning,
there were college students cluttering the library tables.
There was the usual group of boring people, a little too boring, that seemed to be so stereotypical.
Then he saw her. She was reading a book of constellations, and had a stack of Greek mythology and
Egyptian history books. But what got his attention was her. She had beautiful, long, dark auburn hair
flipped over the back of the chair, hanging down to her elbows. She was leaning slightly to the right, and
had her feet on the table casually. She wore a little black t-shirt with very short sleeves, and had a black
arm band on her right arm, just under her right sleeve. Her blue jeans and sneakers looked new and name
brand. "She probably won't be exciting, but maybe I could get her number." Samuel thought. He
walked casually over to her and stopped in front of her, but her attention was in her book. "Excuse me,"
he said, "I am doing an assignment for my journalism class." She looked across the table at him, and then
back at her book.
"What are you interviewing about?" she asked turning the page.
"Someone's life." He responded. "I have to interview a stranger over the age of eighteen." She
looked back up at Samuel as he put his bag on the table.
She thought for a moment "Ok, but if I am going to tell you all about me, I want to know some
things about you."
He sat down, "Seems fair." She closed her book and placed her feet on the floor. "My name is
Samuel Law. I'm twenty years old, and I want to be a journalist."
"Do you attend college here in Tulsa?" She questioned crossing her arms.
"Yes, but I am really from Georgia. I chose Tulsa because I had to get away from my father and
my mother lives here."
"Who is your father?"
"Douglas Law. He is the founder of his company and he likes expensive things, and he loves
anything from ancient Egypt. In fact," he said with a smirk, "he taught me how to read some things in
Egyptian." She raised her right eyebrow, "My attempt to show off failed."
"Why do you hate your father?"
Her blank expression made him feel intimidated "I don't hate him. It's just that he wants me to
take over his company." his eyes looked away from her blank stair.
"What about your mother?"
"Julia Law. She is an architect and loves Tulsa. She buys a lot of art for our house in Georgia
but lives there only half of the time."
"Do you live there?"
"Yeah, I just wanted to finish up this year without distraction. Then I will go back," Samuel said
while pulling out a small recorder. "So let's get started!"
She frowned, "I really don't know where." He pushed the record button. "Oh, come on, your life can't be that exciting."
She leaned forward with her glistening green and brown eyes and said with a grin, "Oh, you have
no idea!" she smiled devilishly and leaned back " I want to begin when I was seventeen. When my life
changed forever."
