With the final arrival of John’s advance team from
the drop off point to the main airstrip, they witnessed a C130 cargo plane
begin its short taxi and then, like a large goose, it quickly took off.
Soldiers from different departing units were loitering around the edge in a
somewhat orderly fashion with their personal equipment near them waiting for
departure back to their post from where they were deployed from months before.
John and his team had quickly unloaded after the
order to depart the Black Hawk was given by a sergeant that had climbed on as
it landed near the airfield tarmac. He blurted out, in a drill sergeant tone of
voice, the instructions and procedures the soldiers were to follow as they
began to unload. They were ordered to assemble themselves in the staging area
for them to board the C130 that was preparing to fly them back to each one of
the soldiers’ assigned destinations.
John had been thinking over the information; he had
finally read the file while on the short journey to the main airstrip. John
looked at his team with a relaxed feeling as he also felt excited to get back
to the more relaxed atmosphere of Fort Stewart and his computer. John commented.
“This Major Farley must think he is totally
invincible; how does he expect to get away with this one? He should have known
someone would see him doing something like this.”
Staff Sergeant King was the first to respond to
John’s comment.
“Sir, when bad officers have power everybody gets
hurt.”
Sergeant Baker, nodding his head, responded.
“That’s the truth.”
Lieutenant Rowling joined the group with a suggested
solution.
“As soon as we land this file should be turned over
to the nearest military police commander. I propose that Sergeant Baker does
the delivery in case someone is watching the rest of us. Nobody knows you were
involved in the investigations here in the Gulf.”
John nods his head in agreement.
“I believe the Lieutenant is correct; before
anything else we should get this file to the ground authorities at Fort
Stewart. We can’t have over five hundred AK47s and a bunch of RPG7s free to the
highest buyer on United States soil. I believe that is what Major Farley has
planned based on his past history. I bet he will be watching us somehow because
we were his only threat close to him in the gulf.”
John paused to think over the comment he had just
made and then continued.
“Sergeant Baker you turn over this information to
the first MP officer you see as we deplane. We will carry your bags for you.”
The team agreed with John. Then Sergeant Baker
responded to his new orders with a thrill of excitement in his voice.
“It will only take me a minute; I will get it done
without anybody noticing.”
John, pleased with the outcome of their informal
briefing responded,
“I think we are done. Let’s rest and not discuss
shop anymore. We have a great day ahead of us as we leave this desert.”
The C130 landed in the early morning sunrise at
Hunter Army Airfield in Savannah, Georgia eighteen hours after their departure
from the airfield in the Gulf. Upon deplaning they saw buses lined up to take
them to the clearance center established on Fort Stewart. The military police
were wearing their traditional armbands and walking all around some with their
M16’s shouldered while others had holstered pistols for security.
When the plane landed the back cargo door opened and
the soldiers began departing in two columns off the plane from each side. A few
soldiers bent down, kissing the ground, as they disembarked the C130 they had
flown in for almost a day straight. The men deplaning with John and his team
began forming a formation to prepare for boarding onto the buses for the next
leg of their final journey back to their homes and, for many of them to, their
awaiting families.
John and his three soldiers emerged and looked
around for what was planned back in the gulf. John saw a military police
captain and pointed to him off in a distance. Sergeant Baker quickly ran to the
officer. He saluted and briefly talked with the officer then turned over the
file. He snapped back to attention and saluted again as the officer began
reading the file Sergeant Baker had handed to him. He returned to the formation
as if nothing had happened. The captain closed the file with obvious
frustration, looked at Sergeant Baker, and then quickly walked off the tarmac
to an awaiting military police Humvee and drove away. John, his team, and the
accompanying soldiers were loaded on the awaiting buses and the bus convoy
began to Fort Stewart. An hour of
travel passed as the sun rose over the swamps of Fort Stewart and then,
finally, the soldiers on the bus reached home.
Another formation was formed as the buses pulled away to pick up the next group of incoming soldiers. John stood to the side of Lieutenant Rowling who was about to call the unit to attention as a third officer walked up to John and began giving John instructions. He poin

About the Book
This book is a compelling action packed factually based novel. The story is about John Livingston seeking his destined career in Technology. With the challenges of a labor family and with little parental support John managed to earn his degree in computer science from West Point one of the United States Military Academies. Despite the challenges of the almost deadly confrontations he had with a spoiled and sheltered Cadet known as Cadet Farley and the physical and emotional pain of the confrontations John mentally put West Point behind him. He began to serve as one of the United States Army newest up and coming Lieutenant.
With the sudden and unexpected deployment of his division to the Gulf for Desert Shield and ultimately Desert Storm he was once again exposed through a chanced confrontation with the newly promoted Major Farley. The progression of events led John down a path of discovery that he wished had not occurred. Through his assignment with the 24th Infantry Division John attempted to expose several war crimes conducted within his division as well as a smuggling operation of weapons controlled by none other than Major Farley. John and his team is set up by Major Farley’s loyal troops. They are arrested, humiliated and ultimately forced out of the army without the smuggling operation or war crimes being exposed.
John begins a new life in a suburb of Los Angeles California working for a small Chinese owned computer parts distributor. He falls in love then marries the owner’s daughter who originally hired him into the company and had been his immediate boss by day and lover by night. With John’s new marriage and his company’s sudden financial failure John is quickly thrown into a tailspin of events which lead him to a discovery of a theft and embezzlement operation controlled by a Russian Mafia organization that in its inner circles had come to be known as the Technology Mafia. John discovers that it was this organization that was responsible for financially destroying his company and his wife’s financial future. By another twist of fate John discovered that the leader of the West Coast Technology Mafia organization was none other than his old archenemy Major Farley. With his new intelligence John seeks to clear his name with the Army and expose Major Farley for who he truly is. With John’s new focused vendetta he informs the authorities so the West Coast Technology Mafia organization could be eliminated.
About the Author
Timothy L. Sparbel is the author of his first fiction Novel called Technology Mafia the Beginning. He is currently working on the second novel of the Technology Mafia series called (Technology Mafia The Code) with plans of release in fall of 2004. In 1995 he coauthored The Hidden Secrets of the Ultimate Life Agent a sales training guide for the Life Insurance Industry. Timothy began his professional career in the United States Army as a Behavioral Science Specialist and later in his Army career he changed to become an Intelligence Analyst. He left the United States Army in the summer of 1990 to pursue a civilian career in the Financial Services Business until his wife and two children relocated with him from his hometown in Iowa to Walnut California a suburb of Los Angeles. It was in Southern California were he began pursuing his new rapidly successful career in Technology. Today living in Lakeland Florida with his family Tim is a novelist and owns a Software Distribution company called Success Brokers LLC which focuses on distributing globally a corporate training Software called LearningWare. To market his software he conducts educational seminars and sales training for his dealers throughout the United States.
