This book is being written to tell the story of one woman’s struggle with Dementia and how it affected the lives of her family and friends. It is not an in depth “how to” or a highly researched documentation on people with Dementia. Rather, it is a background story of a middle class woman who was a wife and a mother, but succumbed to the mental instability that comes with Dementia. Along the way I will try to show things that could help someone who may be involved in a situation where you are faced with caring for a parent that needs special care. As you read this book, you will see the different cycles and situations that a person with this disease goes through and also how a son or daughter might cope with the various phases. The attempt here is to give an accounting of the way a person evolves through this disease. Obviously, this is one person’s story and is different from someone else’s situation. However, in my dealings with my mother through her many phases, I have found that working with and meeting other people and patients, there is a constant thread of similarity in almost every situation I have encountered. I believe that some of the situations that were encountered in seeing my mother through this phase of her life and what had to be accomplished to get her by and keep her alive can be helpful to families about to walk down this path.

About the Book
“Dementia” is a book that discusses how this disease may start in a person and how it leads them into a life of dependency. This book is different in that it focuses on real life aspects of choosing the level of care, choosing a care provider and then dealing with them. It also tells, through a story, many details and pitfalls one may encounter dealing with a loved one who has to endure this way of life. This is a true-life story of a person going through independent living, assisted living and a nursing home, telling some of the inside stories not often heard.
About the Author
This author is a relatively new author having only been a writer of technical procedures manuals for cost engineering and cost scheduling. He wrote these manuals following specific detailed criteria and from his years of experience. His venture into writing “Dementia” was inspired by his mother, who went through many phases of dementia before the end. Together with his wife, he was able to get through the ordeal, and eventually put his thoughts in book form. The intent was to tell a story that would possibly give people in similar situations some idea of what was ahead.
