BIBLICAL IMPERATIVES

As we read our Bibles, we may rightly conclude that in it there are quite a few options for us. We find not a few promises beginning with "if" and a listing of blessings provided we are positive about that "if." We also find some choices conditioned upon this word "if."
Joshua told the Israelites, "And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose ye this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods that your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD." (24:15) But some things are not open to choice.
149 times is the word "MUST" found in the King James Version of the Bible, 105 of them in the New Testament. It carries with it a sense of urgency, of being imperative, and there are implications for all of us in some of these verses.
As the sacrifical Lamb slain in eternity before the foundation of the world, Jesus MUST go to Jerusalem. There he would carry out God's will that he pay in full the price for man's redemption from sin and thus reinstate communion with Him. The full revelation of this relationship comes with the MUSTS of spiritual worship, faith, salvation and the new birth. The application of this fellowship with God is seen in MUSTS of submitting ourselves to Him; of publishing the gospel all over the world; of being good citizens; of the certainty of offences, and of His presence with us in times of persecution and stress. We see His design in the MUSTS of death, resurrection and judgment. His promises are clear in the MUSTS of the coming reign of Christ and the complete fulfillment of the Scriptures.
As we look at these things together, it is my prayer that the Holy Spirit will open your eyes and hearts to Bible imperatives that you haven't seen before, strengthen you in the faith, and challenge you to a closer walk with the Savior in personal devotions, in witnessing, and in Christian service.

At an evangelistic rally, a student minister said with a sense of urgency as he held up his Bible, "There are a whole lost of powerful ‘musts’ in this book!" Those challenging words lodged in the heart of this pastor and proved to be the seeds for these messages. They have been transferred to these pages just as they were delivered from the pulpit to congregations which he served in Louisiana, Washington state, Pennsylvania, and Georgia in the years that followed.

Dr .Tom Adams is a native of Shreveport, LA Army veteran of World War II, served in the US and in Europe.
Licensed and ordained by First Baptist Church, Rayville, LA
Holds degrees from Centenary College, New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, and Luther Rice Seminary.
In the ministry since 1951, has served as pastor in Louisiana, Washington State, Pennsylvania, and Georgia; also was pastor of missions begun by the churches in Washington and Pennsylvania. Since retiring from the pastorate in 1990, has served as supply and interim pastor. Currently is Pastoral Ministries Assistant for Amite Baptist Church in Denham Springs, LA
Served as Missionary Associate under the SBC North American Mission Board Language Missions Department in Pennsylvania. Also served as volunteer chaplain for nursing homes and jails in Pennsylvania and Georgia.
