About the Author

Post secondary schooling offers one an opportunity of a lifetime filled with intellectual and social growth. Being in college has been one of the most rewarding experiences throughout her life span. As an enrolled student in a rigorous educational program at Manhattanville College, she was very engaged pursuing her academic career and had maintained a 3.7 grade point average. Currently, she is teaching tenth grade Global Studies II at White Plains High School in Westchester County New York.

She has obtained her Bachelor of Arts in December of 2000, and completed her Master of Arts in Teaching at Manhattanville through the dual degree (five-year) program in Aug. 2001. On the undergraduate level, she majored in sociology and minored in political science and on the graduate level; she has provisional certification in secondary education with a concentration in history. The former has enabled her to remain focus and apply herself to the utmost degree in the pursuit of her goals.

Moreover, as an educator she has the desire to teach young people. Perhaps later she will become involved in higher education. She plans to work in a university setting as a college advisor and professor. She has been a very busy individual. Her immediate plans involve teaching a SAT course to the Upward Bound students, consulting with students in the program at Western CT State University, teaching Global Studies II at White Plains High School and pursuing her doctorate in education.

Nonetheless, she has still found time to give back to the community. In November of 2001, she delivered a speech on the fundamentals of college and the keys to a successful college career to the Greater Danbury High School students at Career Day for Minorities at Western Connecticut State University. Giving back to the community in this way allows her to relate her own experiences both mistakes and successes to individuals attempting to better their futures. This day was very instrumental and rewarding for her and hopefully to the students that attended as well.
