The Chosen Ones
"I wanted to do something first."
"You know that you should've come back." Monica's voice broke.
"It was me." Then everybody was now looking at the boy that Adam disliked. His hand was rubbing his neck in a nervous kind of way. He didn't know how to start explaining so he started saying what was on his mind.
"I didn't mean it. Alex was controlling me. He must've found out what kind of magic I was using because I couldn't hold it back. But believe this, that voice was Alex's. I heard it for myself."
"Hey, you gave me another idea. We could practice trying to disobey what your enemy is trying to force you to do." Then a wizard went to write the idea down. He was very eager to learn something new for the upcoming war.
"This is all I want to say. You are all very lucky that Asia wasn't here when I was not in control of myself. Alex is trying to do one thing. He would try to make me do a death spell if she was here and if I stopped it then he would show his face in front of Asia with all of you around. He wouldn't care. There was no way that Asia would've survived. She would be dead right now." Then the boy left.
"Were you the one that told her to leave?" George asked. He had a gut feeling that the boy was taken over and did all in his power to save his little girl. George knew not a lot of wizards could do that. The boy was very lucky and in a way he was special. George did not know in what way but he knew it. The boy just nodded his head. Then the boy heard something that he didn't expect for the rest of his life.
"Thank you Damian." Damian looked around in shock. "How did you know it was me?"
"Your eyes" Monica replied. "Your kindness. Like when you helped us get away from Abe and when we knew a different thing. George being an evil wizard even though he didn't turn out bad. Now that explains why he got bad grades back then but that doesn't matter now. Remember that?"
"Yeah, I remember. But when did you know that I was Damian?" He was so shocked. His family had reported him missing. Only his sister knew that the new boy was really her brother, but his mother didn't so Damian and his sister always hung around outside and never in the house. During the night his sister would go up to his room when their mother was sleeping and open the window. At five in the morning he would fly out the window and wait for his sister to wake up.
"Just right know. You would have done the same thing for Adam if Alex was really after him."
"Yeah, I would." Damian was still shocked. Then Adam ran to Damian to give him a bear hug. "I'm sorry that I treated you that way, but one thing kept me from punching your guts out. It was your eyes. But I have one question."
"How did my face change?" Damian asked a question for Adam.
"Yeah. If you don't want to say it out loud, I can go in your mind. Later on, I'll let Asia know the news." Then Damian looked at Asia and Asia moved toward the shelter. "Yeah, you could go in my mind and tell Asia."
Then Adam took a deep breath and put his hand on Damian's head. Right away Adam saw pictures. Alex sure enough put a curse on him that did two things; one is change Damian's face and second to put Damian under his control. Another picture came up of him and Asia in the air and feeling how Damian changed. Asia made Damian get out of the curse. It was Asia that made him change. That was why Alex wanted her dead more than Adam.
Then Adam had to stop. It was true what Damian said about how he got away from the curse. He liked her for a reason. Not because she was pretty but that they could help each other if they were in any kind of danger. Together they have powerful magic. Same with Adam. Now Adam understood why Damian wanted to get back on Alex. This explained everything that he had said. Then Adam opened his eyes.

About the Book

The two girls go to their friends Jennifer and Sarah's house. They plan and do something and then join the Police Department. The girls are too young to work but they do it anyway. As a case is going on, Jennifer meets a boy named Adam. Later on, the five children find out they have a stronger bond than just being friends. From there, things start to change making their normal life turn totally upside down and unsafe. They find out who they are and what they have to do. Especially the Chosen Ones. The Chosen Ones have a bigger job. They have to fight to protect two worlds - The Wizardry and The Mortals.

The five children now live with their biological parents. That is when things start to come together. Their enemy is growing stronger. He needs to be stopped before he destroys lives. The five children have a friend named Damian. He helps them through everything. Everything that happens connects to other things and everyone, in a way, as their lives move on.
About the Author
The Chosen Ones is the first book written by V. A. Cortez. She is currently working on her second book. She started writing two years ago at the age of 12 and stopped for several months. She then continued working on her project and finished a year later. She is currently in the eighth grade and is in the Honor Roll. She is also involved in the Student Council. One of her goals in life as she reaches adulthood is to continue writing. When she reaches her college years in the future, she will take classes to strengthen her writing skills. She also has thoughts about joining the Service as an adult. V. A. Cortez lives with her mother in a west suburb of Chicago, Illinois. In addition to writing, V. A. Cortez enjoys reading, sketching, cross-stitching, puzzles and watching movies. Her favorite sports are basketball and soccer.
