About the Book

This book represents a 40-year effort to build and sustain teams. It is based on proven methods that have been tried under fire in business, industry, social services and education.

Whether you are just beginning to take a more structured approach or if you are an old hand at team building, this book can help.

If you are just beginning, it provides an overview of major facets to be considered. It gives you information necessary to do your own planning. It will also help you formulate the right questions and a criterion to evaluate answers if you are going to involve consultants in your plan.

If you are a veteran team builder, this material can help you to bring the elements of your existing model into conscious awareness. This allows for evaluation of current status and determination if changes are needed.

About the Author

The author has spent his life studying how teamwork impacts organizations. This project represents a model and supporting information developed over his 40-year career.

Dr. Akenhead’s academic preparation includes five earned degrees. He has written about teams in The Executive Educator and The American School Board Journal.

In 1995, he was honored at Bowling Green State University graduation ceremonies as an "Accomplished Graduate."

At twenty-six, he was offered his first superintendence. He was the youngest in Ohio to serve in that position. His career includes 23 years in local, county, and city superintendence’s and 20 years as a consultant and graduate school instructor. Today, he is active in the Changepoint, consulting group.

In his late fifties, Jim and his wife backpacked the Chilkoot Gold Rush Trail from Skagway, Alaska, to Lake Bennet, British Columbia. "The Trail" is considered, by one historian, as the "meanest thirty-three miles in history." Jim believes this kind of experience helps us to understand that the human spirit is capable of far more than we consciously believe.

Dr. Akenhead lives in Alliance, Ohio with his wife Charlene and 12 Alaskan Malamutes.
