Before she left around ten o' clock, I reminded Tasha to be home early-that I was exhausted and I didn't want to wait up too late for her to come home. We agreed on an 11:30 curfew. The three teenagers drove away and Denny and I headed home.
After showering, eating a late dinner and getting Jenna and Tori put to bed, I sat down to go over some paper work while I waited for Tasha to come home. I have never been able to sleep until all my children were home safely for the night. I knew Cole was spending the night at Linsey's, so Tasha was the only one keeping me from going to bed.
My dear, dear Tasha...she has always been my most challenging child. My most stubborn and strong willed, and always the one to "push the limits" of my patience. She continually broke curfew, coming home late {even if it was only a few minutes}. She knew she would pay the consequences the next weekend by staying home with mom and dad -"grounded". This had even become the joke amongst friends and family members. However, this was two weeks in a row out on the town! The previous weekend she went out with Cole and he made sure he kept her from any mischief.
As 11:40 P.M. {ten minutes past curfew} approached, I was already mentally preparing my "you're grounded" lecture. I had made up my mind that at midnight I would pull on my jeans and go retrieve Tasha as I had before. At five till twelve, my sister in law was standing in my kitchen telling me of a car accident. She said "Dallas wrecked his car." Without hesitation, I responded, "Oh my God! Tasha was with him. Did you bring her home?".

About the Author
Dayna Gfeller-Mackley was born and raised in a quiet, small, rural community (population 200) in northwest Kansas. She was brought up and nurtured by loving family members after being orphaned at age two.
Dayna was a third-generation graduate from the local school system and married her high school sweetheart. Mrs. Mackley and her husband of twenty-two years are the proud parents of seven children and at the present time, have one grandson. As a first-time author, Dayna shares her joys in life, as well as the heartbreaking losses which have molded her into the woman she is today.
