About the Book

Precious Memories - Legacy of Bygone Days might be classified by some as a book of memoirs, spanning three generations, but its importance goes beyond mere reminiscence. The book covers an approximate fifty year period, from the early 1900s to the late 1950s, of southern (North Georgia) folk life, and relives the everyday life of real people and circumstances. Even though it is a family history, it gives a description and paints a picture of life in general as lived by many individuals in the area, with slight exaggerations here and there.

Read about various facets of farm life, social events and religious observances, school life, old sayings and signs, ghost tales, and much more. Need to know how sour kraut, pickled beans or leather britches were made? Maybe you are curious to know the process used for making corn liquor. Have you “washed feet” at church, worn an asafetida bag around your neck, or smoked “rabbit tobacco?”

If your ancestors lived in the southeast Pickens and northeast Cherokee County areas of North Georgia during this period, you might find them in this book.
