About the Book
The evolution of women over the last 150 years has been so revolutionary that the value place on the gender of ‘the girls’—their "sex-esteem"—has gone up, way up. This higher-level regard for the female gender began as a search for self-esteem but at some point became so gender-specific that it outgrew that label. The changes have been earned through the process of evolution, not legislated through actions such as the hoped for passage of the Equal Rights Amendment; they cannot, therefore, be taken away.
Gender-altering, life-changing sex-esteem lessons have been learned and they continue to propel Woman forward. It is time to share those lessons and to celebrate them for they are changing the destiny of the female creature. A part of the celebration must focus on and identify the unfinished gender-based lessons on which work remains to be done.
The sex-esteem lessons—those learned and those that remain unfinished—are simply presented in a genre the author calls "sound-bite essays’. Each conveys a sex-esteem lesson that will trigger very personal snapshot thoughts for each reader; each lends itself to a "thought (or lesson or essay) for the day" approach, making it doable reading for even the busiest woman.
The ‘sex-esteem’ concept was introduced by this author at the "International Conference on the Gender of the Girls" in Montreal some years ago and at a "Women in Leadership Conference" in St. Louis about the same time. fromself-esteem to sex-esteem: lessons from the gender evolution of ‘the girls’ was developed based on many years of work with women, children and families. The author, a social worker, is currently the coordinator of a nationally recognized welfare-to-work program.
