About the Book

For centuries the boot heel of the oppressive tyrant strangled the last gasp of freedom within the hearts of the people of Ireland. Whether slashed by the conquering sword of Oliver Cromwell or crushed beneath the weight of unjust Penal laws enacted by a foreign legislature, the resolute Irish prayed that some day Ireland would be a free and independent nation. That long-awaited prayer was answered with the birth of a lad named Michael Collins.

Born to an obscure farming family in West Cork, Michael Collins would be well-grounded in all that is essential to the Irish. His proud head, which would not bow, would be filled with a rich tapestry of mythological heroes who fought bravely for countless lost causes. The tempest of the Irish bid for freedom would come to center on this rash, impetuous rebel leader who had no fear. And when it came his time to give of himself for Ireland, he didn't hesitate in following the creed of the greatest of Erin's warriors, Cuchulain. "I care not if my life have only the span of a night and a day if my deeds be spoken of by the men of Ireland."
