Sara and Sam laughed all the way to the airport. Conjuring up ideas of what was going to happen and what they would do. Sara had printed out a slew of materials on places to go, and things to do. They were worse then a bunch of kids let loose in an amusement park. They were arguing over who was going where and what time they would go.
As they arrived at the airport, they joined the line of people who seemed to have the same idea for a vacation. As they checked their flight and baggage, they were all too busy to notice the two men behind them. There was a man in a dark suit with dark glasses wearing a Stetson along with a man in a more leisurely outfit of jeans and a well-fitted shirt.
Derek knew that Sara and Sam were going on vacation, but he wasn’t sure where. He found out rather quickly where they were going and he thanked the heavens above that the gift shop had a hat and sunglasses so that he wouldn’t be noticed. He had rules about his personal life and work. Rule number one, never mix business and pleasure.
A long time friend since childhood, Dave had called him a few weeks before and said that he was coming to New York on business. He asked Derek if he would like to spend some time with him at his place, to get away for a while and catch up on old times. Derek could hardly turn his friend down, since the last time he saw Dave was at the funeral for Dave’s parents. Dave’s parents were tragically killed in an automobile accident. Dave inherited everything. He invested the money into the stock market and dealt with some brokers in New York. Every once in a while he would call his friend who was more like the brother he never had, to catch up on times.
Derek had agreed to go on a little venture with Dave but never in his life thought that it would be an adventure of trying to stay clear of the two most envied women in his office. He knew all there was to know about Sam. She was open to frequent conversations about her home life and tight family connections. Derek often fantasized about her but he always abided by rule number one of his personal business etiquette laws. The question now arose how was he to keep in line with rule number one when it wasn’t at the office or even in the same state? She was the only woman that ever made his heart race. He could feel her presence from the other side of the room but he always shied from the magnetic pull.
As they boarded the plane, Sara was grateful to have the window seat. They decided to fly first class to give themselves a present. She loved the feeling of taking off into freedom. The ability to see the land below her turn smaller and the feeling of the sky engulfing her. Sam was busy looking through the papers that Sara had given her. She was still trying to figure out what they were going to venture toward first.
Sara was watching the clouds below them, letting her mind wander. She felt herself dreaming of the weeks to come. She envisioned herself sitting on a quiet beach cuddled up against the chest of a well-toned man. The feelings of comfort and security surrounded her. They sat there with each other just enjoying the sunset and each other’s company. She could feel his arms surrounding her like a warm blanket and his warm breath on her neck. His hands, so strong, rubbing her arm as he gently laid her down against the warm sand, his lips, oh so gentle, teasing her lips to part as they kissed. Their tongues entwining in an elegant dance of want and desire. The taste of the sweet salt from a paradise long forgotten swirling through her system.
