This is a very important key to a greater understanding of the Bible. Many times, people take a verse or even a whole section of scripture and give it a meaning that simply is not there. They cannot substantiate what they are saying in any other way other than to say they are "interpreting the Bible."

The New Testament of the Bible (King James version) is translated from the Steven’s Greek Text of 1555, the "textus receptus" Orignal text that all translations and transliterations are derived from. The Greek word that private is translated from is the word IDIOS, which could have been translated one's own. II Peter 1:20 could have been translated as follows: "Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of one's own interpretation." Plainly put, we are not supposed to put our own ideas into what the Bible says. The Old Testament (King James version) is translated from Hebrew. Both the Old and the New Testaments were translated from text that was translated from other text that was translated from other text, etc. Some go as far back as the Aramaic.
