About the Book

All the world’s a stage,
And all the men and women merely players:
They have their exits and their entrances;
And one man in his time plays many parts.

As You Like It
Act II, Scene VII

If William Shakespeare were living today, I’d bet a year’s salary he would be well acquainted with Olive Hunt, who could have served as his inspiration for the quote about the world’s stage. Olive’s biography, Mrs. Hunt Goes to Washington, keeps us on an emotional roller coaster, crying with the tragedies and laughing with the happiness of her life.

Those of us whose lives have been touched by Olive over many years will enjoy the memories of experiences we shared and in the process learn things about Mrs. Hunt we didn’t know: She literally had stage entrances as a performer in the Little Theatre, and her exits from dozens of personal and professional situations have been graceful—always full of hope for the future. However, it’s between curtains up and down that she acted with Academy Award talent—not only as a principal player, but also as a stage manager directing the show.

The Olive Hunt biography will be interesting to many who do not know Olive and to the younger generation searching for deeper meaning in heartaches and accomplishments. It also can serve as a practical history for budding politicians, teachers, physicians, attorneys, and sociologists.

Olive Hunt has been a performer with star quality in many notable events of our lives. She has been a friend, a colleague, and a teacher, and I am pleased to commend Mrs. Hunt Goes to Washington to all who wish to benefit by the experiences of a determined professional who gives meaning to "one man in his time plays many parts."
