And, behold, the whole city came out to meet Jesus:
and when they saw Him, they besought Him that He would depart out of their coasts. (Matthew 8:34)
"Go away, Jesus!" Matt: 8:28-34
In the passages today, Jesus rid the community of two demon possessed men who had been terrorizing the area, and the people who saw it asked Him to go away!
As a new believer, I was amazed that these people would be so ungrateful and stupid. Then, as I stumbled forward in my walk with Jesus, I came to the same place in my own life. And, confronted with my sin, I first ignored Him. Then, when I found He was not going to leave me alone (praise God), my heart said, "Please go away, Jesus. I’m not ready yet." And, my gentle Savior seemed to go away for a time. Later, He would return to confront the same situation, and finally I gave up and began to trust Him in that area of my life.
Once confronted by the actual Word of God on a matter, each person is given an opportunity to decide for Jesus, or against Him. That is when we are in danger of saying, "Please go away, Jesus." Praise God for His mercy and grace that continues to give us another chance.
If you find you are now reminded of a time when you were visited by Jesus and given a chance to trust and follow Him and you sent Him away, you must understand you are being given a "second chance". Maybe it is a twelfth chance! No matter. It is a chance. Grasp it now! Turn to Jesus from that which you cling to, and begin to sit at His feet and learn what He has for you. No matter what the worldly consequences may seem, you will never regret making this chance count for eternity!
Amen.

I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father I have sinned against heaven, and before thee. (Luke 15:18)
Waiting on repentance. Luke 15:11-25
This is a wonderful picture of God's great love for us manifested by His great generosity, His wonderful patience and perseverance, and His great eagerness to forgive all of our transgressions. To miss this picture of God in this great parable would be to miss the entire point. It doesn't matter what you have done, or how long you have been away from Him, God awaits your homecoming from your birth to your last breath. He's ready to throw you a party! But, will you come?
Then, we get the picture of the sinful prodigal. See a young man with all the promise that God put in him squandering it upon his own pleasures, comforts and desires. Until, when all is lost, he comes to himself (V. 17). He totally repents with a broken heart for what he has put his father through, and seeks the job of the lowliest servant in his father's house. Note: the father did not pursue him all over the map while he was sinning. The father stayed home, cared for his other son and his servants and allowed his beloved prodigal to find out where his own devices would take him. But, WHEN THE PRODIGAL REPENTED, the Father went out to greet him. The minute you or I repent of some sin, God is there!
Note: the son completely turned his back on his prodigal life and turned his face resolutely homeward! He didn't keep stopping and looking back! He placed his life on ONE PATH! BACK HOME!
If you are in a place where your heart is breaking over your sins, you are exactly where God wants you. Take Him up on His great offer of forgiveness! Let Him bathe you in the blood of Jesus, clothe you in a new outlook and feed you on His wonderful Holy Spirit.
Father, we thank You for Your great love for us. We are all prodigals and deserving of your wrath. Thank You for giving Your Son, Jesus, as our way of atonement.
Amen.
