The Other Side of Love

I was sitting in my office, with Angie, one morning before school when she looked puzzled then said, "I'm leaving Robinson High Ella." My heart skipped a beat. Possibly I did not hear what I thought I had. She smiled apologetically. "Well, It couldn't go on forever, could it? My career, I'm finally getting that break I've desired for so long."

"Leaving? How could you? What about us?" I shouted.

She smiled at me but it was a sad smile. "You'll get over me. You still have your husband and family. This was something we both thought we needed in our lives and now it's over."

"Over! I love you Angie. You can't just up and leave, I can't let you go."

She shook her head, "Have to, my agent has informed me of an offer from a Symphony in New York."

"So you're moving to New York?" I cried feeling ridiculously childish.

"I've been waiting a long time for this and now it has finally come. Perhaps at the wrong time."

"When will you be leaving?"

She looked sad. "Sometime next month." I caught her up in my arms and drew her to me not caring if someone walked into the office and caught us. "I love you Ella." She said clinging helplessly to me. "I really love you."

"Don't go." I begged.

"I have to. I can't just pass up the greatest opportunity of my life. In case you haven't noticed I was not born blond with blue eyes. I wasn't even born on the right side of the tracks. Opportunities like this one do not come by people like me very often. You of all people should be able to understand that."

"I do understand and that's what hurts." I sighed.
