Allen's voice then sounded very excited "I almost forgot that testimony but I was sure that there was something like that was testified to by Feldman."
"Has this to do with the document I just gave you from the B and B?" Kevin asked.
"Yes." Allen thought for a moment. "Remember the movie 'The Conversation' with Gene Hackman? The whole meaning of the bugged conversation changed with the emphasis shift in the phrase ' He'd kill us if he had the chance.' Well this is something like that. I'll show you later when I see you."
"Getting back to Feldman's testimony. Can't Juan just look it up in the transcripts?" asked Kevin.
"That's the strange thing. He say's that he can't find anything in his transcripts but he can kind of remember something about that himself." Allen's voice now sounded puzzled. Allen then continued "Well you can pack it in there - we'll have you work on another aspect of the case. See me after you have breakfast in the morning and check out."
"I gave her cash for three nights." Kevin said.
"That's ok - just get a receipt and tell her your business keep's it's word and pays its bills." Allen retorted.
"I told her I was a journalist student." Kevin raised his voice - he was sure that she would think this all would be strange.
Allen was quick with an answer "Tell her that an LA paper had just hired you and wanted you to report right away." With that Kevin and Allen ended their conversation.

About the Book
Kevin MacPartlin, relatively inexperienced private detective, gets a new assignment from his boss. They are to work for a lawyer to prove a convicted man, John Jones is innocent by way of appeal and retrial, of double murder. The main evidence against Jones was a dropped glove by a hedge at the Jones residence found by an alleged racist cop. Kevin likes neither Jones nor the cop but as the retrial continues a new way of looking at the evidence turns the retrial topsy-turvy with a startling outcome.
About the Author
Lem Yedowicz is a retired electronics technician. This is his first book. He started his career in the military and continued it in commercial and defense electronics. He has always been interested in mystery and detective novels. He also follows mostly British TV detective episodes. He finds a similarity between electronic trouble shooting and detective work. One possible exception is a jury can be sometimes talked into a verdict unlike devices which can only be made to work by technically correct remedies.
