About the Book

This book, World Spiritual Currents, gives practical information and guidelines about national and world religions and cultures. How does it affect daily life? Can you recognize believers of a certain religion? Are their homes different from yours and why?

You may use this book as a reference, it has an easy to read, clear layout and a useful comprehension word list and address list in the back of the book, including website addresses.

Mutual understanding of various beliefs and religions is of great importance for world peace.

The book targets students, as well as travelers, diplomatic personnel, journalists, immigration authorities and anyone interested in or connected to foreign cultures. Persons working in social services should benefit from this information too.

During translation a few important currents have been added to the original ones, like the Mormon and Native American. Great care has been taken to define main currents and other smaller currents and their relationship to one another.

This book has been successfully used in the Netherlands for educational, social and international purposes and is now available in the English version.

About the Author

Mr. Kees Theeuwes is a Dutch-born sociologist, studied theology and taught many years at the Social Academy in the Netherlands in fields of social work for hospitals, psychiatry, handicapped, detention centers, welfare centers, and retirement homes. He worked for the Social Services Deptartment as a social-legal supervisor in the city of Arnhem.

Through teaching he discovered a need for religious/cultural information, which resulted in this book. He explains different religions and what cultural effects it has in people’s daily lives.

He concluded that being well informed about a person’s religious and cultural background, will help in understanding and mutual respect.
