Sloan walked toward the door whistling that tune again. It pierced her brain with an eerie precision as she remembered killing the mouse the other night. "Three Blind Mice. It’s a children’s nursery rhyme."
Sloan turned around and nodded. "Yeah so?"
"I’ve been trying for weeks to figure out where I heard that tune before. It’s been driving me nuts. Why are you whistling it?"
He smiled at her oddly and shook his head. "That’s a story for another time. Listen Doctor, I know I was a bit intrusive before when I started on about Charlie. I know that there’s some sort of problem tearing at you and you can’t tell me that, because you’re my doctor and it’s personal, and blah, blah, blah. But do you mind if I offer you a piece of objective advice."
Judy sighed loudly, as Charlie was the last thing she desired to discuss with Sloan, but she gave him allowance knowing that he wouldn’t stop until he had his way. "Okay, shoot."
"First of all you should talk to him, to avoid any misunderstandings. But whatever happens remember these three things. Three rules of engagement I live my life by. Always know your opponent. Always get the upper hand. And always, always land on your feet."

Ian Black hails from Western Pennsylvania. He has spent most of his life studying the art of crafting a good story. Attending Lehigh University, he studied English, journalism, and writing. He is currently pursuing his Master’s Degree in technical communications at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
