About the Book

This small but powerful book defines the soul. It takes a complex subject and puts it in everyday language. It brings into focus, without being religious, how the spiritual side of humanity relates to the mind, heart, and body and how they all fit together. I searched for years for a book like this that gives a plausible answer to what the soul is. This is a spiritual exercise, meant for all who want to reflect on the relationship of Life to Death.

About the Author

Johanna Lopez spent her professional life as a middle school teacher and guidance counselor. She worked in an urban setting with students and parents of lower socioeconomic circumstances, and a high mobility rate. During her twenty-five years of service, she discovered a general ignorance within the community regarding death and the grieving process. Also, she accepted as reasons for low grades and high absenteeism the verbalized excuse of traumatic events.

Events, although understandable, are not excusable reasons for not learning. Some technique had to be created to help students move beyond the emotion back into the mainstream of school life. From her experiences and readings came the Grieving Ritual.
