I recently watched my daughter working on a very large puzzle with thousands of pieces. First she picked a color—in her case green for trees at the top right of the puzzle—and worked on that section for a while, then she picked another color—brown for a building in the lower center—and put that part together. On and on she went until all the sections were completed and the puzzle came together as a whole. This is the way the soul grows. First it will work on one area of its growth for a while, then leave that area and go to another. At the end of its incarnations the puzzle is ready to be put together as a whole.
To illustrate, here is one soul and its incarnations over the past millennium... The Barbara soul took a variety of lives during this last millennium: three as a man, five as a woman, one in South America, one in Africa, four in Europe and two in America. The lives differed in income, responsibility, culture, climate and achievement. However, the earth lives had neither an upward nor downward progression...
Karma is one important facet of the soul's growth. It is the principle that whatever we do comes back to us—in this life or in another... This is true whether we treat others kindly or cruelly. Karma provides us with justice. The villain in one life will become the victim in another. But good deeds are also rewarded. The person we help in this life could be our benefactor in another... When an action causes a reaction that is not completed in one life, it becomes unfinished business for another life...
Just as karma helps us grow, so do problems... Problems are signs of incomplete mastery of some type and the opportunity to do something about it. If you want to know your purpose in life, look to your problems. They are often the key to the growth you need in this life because they show an area in which you need to improve...
This is not to say that all problems exist so we can grow. For many reasons, life can be difficult at times... Some people are jobless because of something they need to learn, but many of those who are pushed into the ranks of the unemployed are faced with a problem that was not created for the sake of their growth... It is not what happens to us that truly matters; it is how we handle it. Nothing outside us can interfere with our spiritual growth unless we allow it...
Karma discourages wrong moves, and problems provide opportunities for growth, but these are not the only ways that the cards are stacked in favor of our growth...

About the Book
Brian L. Weiss, author of Many Lives, Many Masters, was a traditional psychotherapist and discovered reincarnation when some of his patients uncovered traumatic experiences from past lives. The many books based on the channeling of Edgar Cayce focus primarily on karma.

About the Author
The life of Helen Nethery Roberts changed direction in 1976 when she was introduced to the Religious Research Foundation, founded by Rev. Dr. Franklin Loehr in 1952 to research life after death, prayer, and psychic phenomena. Then came a unique opportunity to study the soul through communication with a spirit guide called Dr. John Christopher Daniels. For more than thirty-five years, readings from Dr. John were channeled, researched, and cross-checked for accuracy. When Dr. Loehr died in 1988, there were over 5,000 readings. There Are More Things in Heaven and Earth... is based on the teachings in these readings.
Dr. Roberts has also lectured, conducted seminars and counseled many individuals in past-life recall therapy. In 1985, World University, Benson, Arizona, awarded her an honorary doctorate of philosophy for her research and writing.
