Inside of her condominium, she placed the flower into last night's empty Mardi Gras wine bottle. In the vacant eyes of the bottle's mask, she saw his dancing, piercing and laughing eyes. *** Tess could feel the pulse in her throat as she held the necklace. Her neck bristled as Grant lifted her hair and skillfully clasped it. She shivered slightly when he turned her toward him. Their lips met and Grant's tongue tenderly caressed hers. Her full response to his kiss added to her emotional confusion. *** Tess felt light headed. She recognized the face of that woman. Although she was radiantly beautiful, Tess saw only the despairing eyes of the woman who had begged for her help in the research room. *** Tess's hands flew to her mouth. A silent scream filled her head. Laying face up on the Venetian marble floor was Walter Reight. He was being engulfed in an ever enlarging pool of dark red blood. *** Tess, closing the door behind them, felt betrayed. She removed her diploma, attorney's license and a wooden plaque from the wall.

About the Book
Tess Carey was a young corporate attorney who had it all: a wonderful career, life style, and a wealthy southern gentleman who wanted her for his wife. That day in the legal research room, when a woman was pleading for her help, turned her world upside down. Tess’s search for this stranger is interwoven with Mardi Gras, corruption, and murder. Defending this woman would force her to abandon her safe havens and risk the loss of her lover. In accepting the challenge, Tess rediscovered her true self and embraced a new beginning.
About the Author
The author, Charlotte Ann Foryan, was born and raised in northern Wisconsin. She was a teacher in the Milwaukee Public School System for thirty years. She has written eight short stories and an adaptive physical education manual. Since her retirement from teaching, she is fully pursuing her life long dream of writing.
