About the Book

Calvin Porch is a senior at a historically Black college. When he and two friends go sightseeing at a vacant Mansion, an unknown assailant shoots him. The town police department shows no interest in the case. Porch borrows a pistol for protection and enlists a student newspaper writer to help him pursue a suspect.

This all happens right after Porch’s breakup with Maureen. She pledges into a sorority when their relationship is just beginning.

Coach John Benson has a falling out with Porch, but he can’t afford to put him off the Baseball team. A potential scandal exists that could harm the Coach. They co-exist through a rocky season.

During these times, Porch finds refuge in a young woman who is more mature and worldlier than he is. By graduation day, his life is touched by love, regrets, and death. The greatest lessons he learns are that life is not always fair, and that it’s so hard to say goodbye to yesterday.
