I’m sure there are other reasons, but I think these are the five most popular ones. Let’s look at these reasons and see if they make any sense or if you are headed for a pitfall using them. If you have another reason, maybe you can use our reasoning to apply to your own situation.

1. I’m adventurous and would like to try something new.

If this applies to you, I’m glad that you are adventurous. You’ll need that sense of daring for your undertaking. But is it a good reason to marry a Russian woman? I don’t know what you know of Russian women, but let me explain a few facts about them. They are not like the ones you see on television. They are not girls from the country or fresh off the farm, or as Luda calls the, "babushka’s". They are smart. If the only reason you want to marry one of them is for adventure, they’ll see through you very fast. Once they see what you’re in this for, they’ll drop you like a "hot potato". Or they’ll use you for their own amusement.

I never thought of myself as having a sense of adventure. Maybe, in my dreams, I saw myself as very brave and daring, but in real life, my idea of a big adventure was to play the lottery. I’m sure it came across that way to my wife in my letters. I know it comes across to her now. If you’re just in it for a sense of adventure or for a lark, you might fool the lady you are writing for a short time, but not for long. It didn’t take me long to find out how smart my wife was when we first started writing.

2. I’m a dud with the ladies here in America.

So, you’re a dud here in American, but you’re sure that you’ll be seen as a Don Juan overseas. If that’s the way you think, go back and read what I said about Russian women being smart. Not only are they smart, they are also very hip. They see all of the American movies over there. They know who Tom Cruise, Mel Gibson, and all those other American and British actors are. My wife had seen more recent American movies than I had. She must have asked me a dozen times, "Have you seen this movie?" and, of course, my answer would be "no." So, they know a dud from a stud, and all the types in between.
