About the Book

The Rex is the story of a modern day prophet who seemingly has been given unlimited power by God. His purpose is to point men and women heavenward before the end comes. Although no one is ever hurt by his prayers and his power, he becomes the most hated man in the world in a matter of a few months.

Born to now-departed aristocratic parents who built the stately Rexford Manor in the farmlands of southwest Colorado, Rex is uniquely suited to grab the attention of the world. In the process of time, Rex confronts brother and sister news reporters Mike and Dolly Dandridge in a quite mysterious way and their lives are literally saved by his warnings.

The two agnostics are intrigued by a man they have never met as they repeatedly cross paths with those whose lives have been incredibly affected by Rex's influence. In the search for who and what this man is, they are confronted with far more than just what they suspected was simply a 'fanatic' preacher who was stalking them.

Tornadoes that do no damage, huge hail storms that leave no trace, and a gigantic hurricane that is verily controlled by the prayers of one man keep the entire world on the edge of its seat with anxiety wondering who this prophet is and just what his message is all about. The Dandridges watch as the forces of darkness gather to destroy the one they have come to call The Rex, and they find out all to personally what it means to defend the man in the face of a society which hates him despite his love, his goodness, and his dedication to Jesus.

The time is now, and yet Rex is moved by his God to make known that what heaven could do, it eventually will do whenever the end of the world finally arrives.

About the Author

Originally from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Kirk Coffia has been a schoolteacher for twenty years while also being a pastor of a local church for eighteen of those years. A U.S. Navy veteran during the Vietnam War, he served as a Navy Hospital Corpsman for four years, 1970-1974. Graduated from college with a degree in secondary education with training in three different colleges.

As of this writing, Kirk has been married thirty years and he and his wife Linda have had five children, Marcia, Betsy, Richard, Donna, and Jonathan. Marcia the oldest, is a registered nurse in Chicago; Betsy is the editor of the Elk Rapids, Michigan newspaper called The Town Meeting; Richard is a department store assistant manager in Grand Rapids, Michigan; Donna passed away at three months of age in March, 1983; and Jonathan just graduated from high school and is headed to college in Chicago.

At the present time, Kirk is pastor of the small town Martyr's Memorial Baptist Church, in Rapid City, Michigan. With the help of his wife, he privately tutors several students each school year. His children are all graduates of this private tutoring ministry in Rapid City.

Kirk twice served as a security chief of electric generating plants in Indiana during the years 1978-1981. He also has been twice elected to positions in the Republican Party, once in Indiana in 1976, and once in Michigan in 1986.

Kirk, and/or his wife have seen or visited most of the places that are mentioned in THE REX. They have been on trips to Washington D.C. (1995), New England (three times: 1992, 1995, 1998), Gettysburg, Pennsylvania (1995-96), Colorado Springs and Pikes Peak (1991), England (1997), Scotland (1997), and Israel (during the millennial celebration 2000). Many of the descriptions of these places were directly in reference to those trips.

Kirk made a special trip to Holly, Colorado in the spring of 2001 to get a point of reference to home of the hero of the story, Leon Rex. His roots are in Oklahoma where he grew up, leaving home at age eighteen to join the U.S. Navy in February 1970.

He now lives quietly with his wife Linda in Rapid City.
