How Money Should Be Acquired Money must be earned before it can be saved. God expects us to work for our money. "--.this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat" (II Thessalonians 3:10). Exodus 23:12 says, " Six days thou shalt do thy work, and on the seventh day thou shalt rest". "He that tilleth his land shall have plenty of bread" (Proverbs 28:19). "In all labour there is profit --" (Proverbs 14:23). " In the beginning God created --" (Genesis 1:1). Even God works. He wants us to be productive citizens and do something that will be beneficial for our fellow man as well as ourselves. Work is an important principle throughout the Bible. Proverbs 10:4 tells us that lazy hands make a man poor, but diligent hands bring wealth. The book of Proverbs is full of warnings against laziness (Proverbs 10:4; 12:11,14,24; 13:4; 19:15). We are to work hard and take pride in our labor. God commands us to earn our money honestly. "Providing for honest things, not only in the sight of the Lord, but also in the sight of men" (II Corinthians 8:21). Also stated in Proverbs 13:11, "Wealth gotten by vanity shall be diminished: but he that gathered by labour shall increase". " Treasures of wickedness profit nothing --" (Proverbs 10:2). In I Thessalonians 4: 11,12, we find that as we also aspire to lead a quiet life, to mind our own business, and to work with our own hands, as we are commanded, that we may walk honestly towards those who are without, and that we may lack nothing.
