About the Book

This book is a collection of op-ed type thoughts, philosophies, observations and comments about many subjects in the current news war, government, media, trends, politics, business, religion, ethics, morals, and just plain old common sense, and the ruminations of an American who is looking at what is happening in the world and does not like what is seen, nor the direction of the USA and the World.

These writings express much thought, opinion, musings, but certainly questions that may or may not have been answered in the text. The intent is to put light on other ideas and opinions and to elicit questions and explore for answers in one's mind. It would be naïve to think all these thoughts and ideas are correct, but if one's mind is open to truth, and one is willing to change an opinion if it is shown to be wrong, then that person is of good will and human progress can be made. It is hoped that others will think about some of these subjects and offer a better or opposing viewpoint than those presented here.

About the Author

Albert L. Maslar Jr. was born in Reading Pennsylvania to immigrant parents from tiny Slovakia, population of about two million people at the time. Some famous people claim to have been born in a log cabin which is a high standard compared to the author's place of birth, a "Holy Ghost House", three rooms, one atop the other. The house did not even have a whole number, 517½ Strong Alley, and sub-ghetto by today's standards.

He was born soon after his parents arrived in the USA and his first language, until first grade, was Slovak, a decided disadvantage among his peers when trying to fit in as an American. His mother was "Jansenist" Catholic, which meant she believed and followed extreme principles, for instance, not only not eating meat on Fridays, but not eating eggs which came from a meat animal, and not eating "Jell-O" on Fridays, because it had a bone extract to make it jell. These things were an influence on the author which caused him to agonize and be overly-scrupulous at times.

He graduated with a degree in Accounting from St. Joseph's College in Philadelphia when it was still an all male school. After two years of service in the Army Finance Corps, he spent ten years working for CPA firms. The next ten years were spent as Controller/Treasurer of various corporations, after which he went into direct mail advertising, printing, and acquisitions and mergers before they were popularized. Another ten years was spent as a Consultant (definition: an unemployed professional), and data-base software development. About five years was spent developing Internet sites for the World Wide Web, at a time when Yahoo was in its infancy.

Albert claims that throughout his career, he was often right at critical stages, but others thought him to be wrong, until maybe five years later when his original position proved to be correct. In the meantime, he states that he was usually unable to benefit from his correct prognosis as that was contrary to the then current consensus. He feels he has a knack of visualizing the outcome of actions very early in the game, before many people can see the same outcome, and that he is a quick study.

He authored this book, over 200 topics, to express his contrarian opinions in the hope that some of the expressed opinions contribute positively to the righting of wrongs and show a new and correct path to what made the USA great, so that America can remain great for all its children and grandchildren. He feels that blind patriotism is a mistake, which it is better to admit and correct problems before they become incurable and bring this great country down. He states that most cancers can be cured if diagnosed and treated early enough, and there is still time to cure the budding cancers afflicting the USA today, but there is not much time to waste.

Albert feels that lying to oneself is the worst form or falsehood because that precludes an honorable outcome, and the USA must correctly distinguish between truth and falsehood, good and evil, and take appropriate morally correct action, even if it hurts temporarily, otherwise, it will be a permanent hurt the Founding Fathers would not have wanted.
