It was the kind of night on which it was impossible to remain indoors – exams or no exams. So after futile attempts at my studies, I threw down my books and strolled out into the yard. There I wandered about aimlessly thinking about nothing in particular, just drinking in the beauty of the cool June night and telling myself how lucky I was to be alive to enjoy it. High above, the sky spread itself out like a thick silvery blanket patterned by twinkling stars that brought back a rush of memories of last Diwali celebrations. The crescent moon looked like a gallant ship being tossed upon a sea of clouds and I stood for a moment enraptured by the magic of the moonlight, one hand toying idly with a rosebud in our garden. It was there by the rose bush where I lingered that a familiar voice caught my attention – the words shattered my reverie and pierced like daggers through my heart. Suddenly, the magic of the night vanished. Gone was the desire to plunge deeper into this glorious night and drink my fill of its beauty while it lasted. ... I was not afraid to step out, of that I was sure. No job I was likely to get could demand knowledge or initiative or physical performance beyond my capability. I held not a trace of fear that working life would cause stagnation in the process of my further education as I was prepared to burn the midnight oil. It was my parents’ acceptance of this radical change in my life that held my greatest doubts. Their reaction to this maturity, this harsh turn of events, the pain I knew they would jointly suffer to witness the opening up of their delicate embryo into a seedling ready to face its exposure to a complex world was what tormented me. In the midst of these serious contemplations, I heard a playful chuckle that I recognized immediately.

This novel was written in 1980 when one of her grandchildren was born. Candida spent all of her life with Grandma, from the day she was out of the hospital where she was born. While she worked hard on the making of this beautiful novel, Grandma made up a little bed with Candida’s blankets and placed her to sleep on the Speedwriting table. Now Candida, who is gracefully portrayed on the cover of this novel, is twenty-one years old while her Grandma is sixty-five years old. This publishing is now about to take place. Owing to circumstances and situations, it could not have been done before. It is hoped that this novel will become remarkable literature for the young, especially.
About the Author
Bebe Nysha owned and operated a secretarial college in Georgetown, Guyana. She placed thousands of graduates in government, banks, insurance companies and so on. Bebe is the mother of four daughters and four sons. She lost her husband nine years ago and now pilots the family-ship alone. Nurturing her children was challenging but rewarding. Today, she is versatile in multiple disciplines such as architecture, music, accounting, psychology, foreign languages, cake designing, and many more. She strongly believes in studying and enjoying extra-curricular activities with her children. For eighteen years she has been the President of Beacon Title Services, Inc. a Title Insurance Company located in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Bebe is a Christian, sharing her ministry with her family, friends, staff and clients.
