Grasping the note in his left hand, Hank and Natasha proceeded into the convention centre’s reception area just as they had the last two mornings. Curiosity was eating away at both of them. What did the note say? Why did this young man risk arrest by the police to deliver a note from a man who vanished into thin air? Instead of going straight into the Erasme Auditorium for the panel discussion on uses of the Internet in plant management, Hank and Natasha slipped away from the crowds to a quieter, less busy area. They happened upon a bench near some tall windows that looked out into the seven-hectare green belt that surrounded the complex. Still holding the note in his hand, Hank unfolded it to reveal its mysterious contents. The note read as follows: "Entschuldigen Sie mir, bitte, ich heiße Franz Heidel. Ich bin eine Ingenier von Energia AG. Es ist wichtig daß ich mit Ihnen bei der Gutenberg Platz neben der Statue an der 21:00 heute Abend sprechen muß. Bitte, komm alein. Ich habe die Information von das Projekt Atlantis, eine Verschmutzungfrei-Energievorrichtung. Energia wird dieses Projekt abbrechen. Bitte, hilfe mich! – Franz Heidel." "I think it’s in German. Can you read it?" he asked Natasha. For the next minute, Natasha silently read the note a couple of times. She sat in stunned silence. "What does it say, Natasha. I’m dying of curiosity!" "You are not going to believe it!" "Sure I will, come on, tell me!" "It says, ‘Excuse me please, my name is Franz Heidel. I am an engineer from Energia AG. It is important that I meet with you this evening at nine o’clock at the Gutenberg Place near the statue. Please come alone! I have information about a Project Atlantis, a pollution-free energy device. Energia is going to dismantle the project. Please help me! – Franz Heidel.’" "Project Atlantis! You’ve got to be kidding? Oh, I don’t mean you, Natasha, I mean this guy, Franz," Hank exclaimed. "That is what the note says," she stated.

The Grid
The setting for The Grid is the electrical power business. Hank Hudson is an overworked mechanical engineer from a Midwest utility. Natasha Shakhova is a beautiful Russian nuclear power plant director. Dieter Schmidt is the ruthless CEO of Energia, an international energy cartel.
Energia has a deep secret. It has developed an unconventional way of producing electrical energy, one that doesn’t use fuel, nor creates environmentally destructive pollution. What’s so sinister is that Energia is suppressing their discovery.
Hank and Natasha meet at a European trade conference and unsuspectingly become caught up in a whirlwind of intrigue and industrial espionage that lifts them out of their everyday existence and into an urgent mission to bring this new technology into safe hands. Will they prevail, or will Energia’s security henchmen prevent them from succeeding? The implications for the world are staggering.
About the Author
Alden Studebaker is an author and minister living in the Cincinnati area. He is the author of Wisdom for a Lifetime – How to Get the Bible Off the Shelf and Into Your Hands, a Bible handbook for progressive minded Christians published by Unity Books. He has a degree in religion from Western Michigan University, and presents workshops on Bible interpretation around the country. He is also the son of Henry "Hank" Studebaker, a mechanical engineer working for the US Navy, and to whom this book is dedicated.
