About the Book
Perhaps the most intense, edge-of-your-seat sci-fi novel to come along in a long time, The One is a colossus, a giant scale, imagination expanding epic. Adventure, drama, hard tech, powered armor, starship battles, armies, heroism, romance, political intrigue across multiple star systems, rich interstellar history, ancient races, deadly aliens, eye-opening discovery, heart-stopping action - it's all here. Careful, or you might flinch. Ian Rhames, U.S. Marine turned assassin, stumbles across an alien scout ship and its crew, who have themselves stumbled across the Earth. In a bizarre twist, Ian finds no choice but to attack the deadly aliens in order to survive. With the help of a young girl, a prisoner of the aliens, her presence nearly as strange as theirs, Ian wins the vessel. And suddenly he has the unthinkable: control of an alien starship. From this beginning the action charges forward, as does the scope of The One. Ian uncovers an amazing history, dating back over six thousand years on Earth alone - nearly 70 million all told. Dozens of human worlds across the galaxy, long ago separated from the Earth, are in a fight to uncover their past. And they may have found it. Now the long forgotten Earth is in jeopardy as these interstellar governments, alien races, and, indeed, several powerful forces vie for the discovery of what they believe will set them free. A world hidden thousands of millennia ago by the last truly galactic race. A world known simply as the Tomb of Kings. And so Ian finds himself at the center of an epic struggle, fleets of starships and advanced armies battling for dominance, manipulative politicos playing a deadly game of chess...all the while off stage other, more sinister forces cast their hands. But one man can find within himself immense strength. One man can lead the many, and in so doing change the course of history. For more information, go to
About the Author
David G McDaniel began life thirty-four long years ago in 1967. He was born on the west coast of Florida, not far from where he now lives. During his life he's lived in several other locations, both within the borders of the US - the West, Mid-West, South, South-East, North-East - and without, having also lived three years in Europe. From those various homes David has traveled quite a bit, visiting most of mainland Europe, North Africa, Canada and all but the westernmost portions of the US. Now he has settled, for the moment, back in Florida, near friends and family and with a family of his own. David was married in 1998 and he and his wife have a new baby boy, who manages to keep them both very busy. David began writing The One during a 6-year term of service in the US Navy, back in 1987. The story has been through the titles Ruin of Man and Godkill, published briefly under this last, before reaching its final incarnation as The One. The story, too, has evolved. At first meant to be an all-around cataclysm, where most everyone lost in the end, the final product has shaped itself into a truly inspirational tale of heroism, where one man overcomes his own demons to save all of mankind. At first the writing of The One moved slowly, sporadically, as new hobbies sometimes do. Years passed when David didn't write at all. Then others where there were numerous re-reads or revisions, but no new progress. Then, somewhere along the way, he got it together and really began to write. Where it had taken years to finish the first two books, he finished the third and final book in about 8 months. From there he launched into another novel, one that takes place 6,000 years in our past and is the next book in the sweeping series, The Saga of Ages, outlined at this site, for which The One is the endcap. If you enjoy(ed) The One, you'll love what Dave has in store. Stay tuned for more as this amazing tale of Man continues to unfold...
