There had always been plenty of stray cats around and Romeo loved to chase them. As we were out in the country, I guess it was a good place to "dump" unwanted pets. I had noticed a calico cat in particular. She would lie at the edge of the trees and watch me as I mowed the lawn or did other chores, but never attempted to make any kind of contact. I also had two ducks that lived in my pond and I would put cracked corn out for them to eat. One day I caught the calico eating the corn. I didn’t think cracked corn was a very good diet for a cat, so I brought her some of Romeo’s kibble. Later I replaced that with kitty kibble and put it on the porch. She would come in the middle of the night and chow down. After a while, she started to sleep on the chairs I had on the porch, but would run off when I opened the house in the morning. One bright July day, I opened the windows above where she was sleeping peacefully. She rolled over, stretched and said "Meow". I said, "Well, good morning". Little by little she became friendlier. Romeo, of course, thought the only thing cats were good for was chasing and tormented her daily. Deciding she’d had enough of that nonsense, she turned, stood on her back legs and smacked him a couple of times in the face. "Back off, you crazy dog." He pulled up short. He didn’t know what to think of this bold move. It fought back. He kept his distance after that. Chasing her was one thing, fighting with a creature with sharp claws was another. Takes away all the fun.

About the Book
This is the story of an avowed dog lover and how three special cats won her heart. It tells of her rediscovery and journey into the wonders and complexities of feline behavior and the one special kitten that changed her life forever. It tells of Cali, a nervous and paranoid calico; of Boots, a feisty and adventurous kitten; and Ash, master of all he surveys. It is heartwarming and tragic all at the same time.
About the Author
The author was raised in Los Angeles and now resides in Kentucky with her dog, Romeo and two cats, Cali and Ash. She worked for the United States Post Office for nineteen years and is retired now. She enjoys cooking, gardening and watching videos. This is her first book.
