The Madness In the early morning hours, the madness reigns, creeping and crawling through the boundary from death to life, between sleep and shaky wakening. During sunny optimistic morns when one's defenses are down, it sizes up the toll time has taken on the withering soul. It knows when the mind will weaken: today and the morrow. Madness reigns when the best we have just isn't enough. When we don't close the distance in our love of life, it partners us - we end alone. In quiet solitude, we hear our Vices beckoning whispers, "Join us." Cataloged embarrassments, mistakes and past pain returns to taunt, "We’re not through with you yet." I scream, "I can't take any more." It responds, "Take what?" Then all begins again like a bad dream without end. When sadness never goes away, the morn and the even have no meaning. Then, I do the unspeakable, give up and join the dark dance. Lost now, in the mad tango of poisoned words, smoke and mirror mirage, I am one of them. I always have - never realized it - been mad. Dark Lovers It's noon at Martinique Prison. The general population moves about a large area and sits around tables. "I'm Jake in the cell next to you, mind if I sit." "Pearce Edwards - sure sit." "Edwards, what brings an American to lovely Martinique Prison?" "Murder. What's it to you Jake?" "We don't see many Americans. Most qualify for extradition. You're a very bad boy, Edwards." "It's a long story Jake." "Here's a taste, Edwards. Maybe that will loosen you up?" "Good stuff Jake - thanks. I'm still not sure when during the trip I lost control, or what happened. My wife Melanie loves to tango and salsa - we were out on the town when it all began." Her name was Marrient and his Jonquière. She, a tall sultry French woman, he, a striking dark Jamaican, live in Martinique. Enticement is their stock and trade, marking young good-looking tourists during their stay. Each night, at Club Vojenga, they tango as no others ever have. Marrient undulates, nude, underneath silk's caress. Her vapor and fine perfume stimulates the fantasies of men and women. Transfixed by every move - all eyes on Marrient are hungry. Jonquière's commanding domination ripples his seamless body suit, all sigh, men and women. Jealously, he grabs Marrient's hair, jerking her head to his chest. She pushes him, and they part, spin dancing from each other. Marrient's legs move up and down Jonquière, dipping bodies near the floor, as their feet glide to music powered sex. Other dancers clear the floor, we're all enthralled captives till the orgasmic pulsing tango ends. A crowd throngs around their celebrities. Local business associates introduce us. We dance, have a few drinks, and continue the party at their place. Jonquière and Marrient, charming professional dancers, own an opulent ocean view estate. I thought it odd dancers lived so well. Their tropical hillside estate with spectacular views of Martinique Bay, is just ten minutes from Club Vojenga. Structural steel walls and glass create 360-degree views, large his and her dance studios on either side of the living area dominate. They met five years ago at a casino in Freeport Grand Bahama, moved in together and that's all I know. When Melanie tells them who we are, they feign interest, but they knew all about us. Perhaps our local associates spoke of us. Melanie and Jonquière leave Marrient and me in the living room. I use their phone to answer a page, there's a gun in the top drawer. Marrient asks how my business is going, we flirt and arranged to join them at the club next evening. We return to Club Vojenga, Marrient, Jonquière and tango intrigue. Throughout the evening they dance with opposite and same sex partners. Melanie and Marrient are all over each other as they dance. Jonquière and I drink and watch our partners dance. "What do you think of that Pearce?" "Exciting Jonquière, but it makes me feel, oh hell, I don't know." "Jealousy is a tempest of human nature Pearce, unpredictable and dangerous, nothing's more arousing. Viagra, cocaine, pornography, a fetish, nothing inflames passion like jealousy. Control and use it like the slut it is! "When Marrient tangos with others, it drives me mad. I cut in and dominate not because I want to - because I have to. "Those who watch us dance every night are mad with envy, vicariously satisfying their urge to dominate. Submission is not part of the tango. It's lead, follow and lead again, a fight for control. We do yearly tours, give private lessons to the rich and famous, we have investments and Marie's parents are moneyed.
