What you have to do is ask questions. Find out what are the problems they have had. What are their experiences. This is where you need to have patience and hold back your need to talk so you can keep probing and listening. Then ask the prospects what’s important about their need. What’s important about this? Ask on and on. What’s important about that? Then once you know what their need is, answer on how your product or service can best solve their problem based upon their needs. Nothing more! Before you show how you solve it, ask them how they would solve it. Most times they will actually tell you how to do it. Agree with their method. Most times again, you can do it the way they say except with your special flavor of getting things done included. I found this to be an effective way to communicate with customers. When I go in to make sales, the appointment goes very well and quickly. I’ve already established the appointment though my marketing. I know they are in my niche and are looking for a product or service. You have got to recognize where you are, in every aspect of business and move to that 4th stage, in every one of those aspects, if you are not already there. There is a price to pay in attaining anything worthwhile. While paying that price, it is easier to deal with those frustrating moments, we all have, by placing the charting of your progress, in one of those four stages. Stage One: Unconscious Incompetent Whenever you or one of your staff starts something new, they are not only incompetent doing the job, they are not even aware they are incompetent. Stage two: Conscious Incompetent This is when your staff member is still incompetent doing something, only now they recognize their mistakes. Stage Three: Conscious Competent At this point, the job is being done right, but it takes a conscious effort.
