Samantha Paige clamped her hands over her ears, but it didn’t help. Between Dr. Lescher’s ranting and raving, and several board members shouting to try to be heard, the decibel level in the room had become painful. Sam wasn’t trying to be difficult. She wanted to answer the questions being fired at her, she really did. If she weren’t so damn tired, her brain would function better. Why did everyone have to shout? This god awful mess was partially her fault. She’d let her temper get the better of her. For someone who prided herself on her professionalism, she’d acted in a most unprofessional manner. She regretted it. In all her years of nursing, nothing like this had ever happened. In point of fact, Samantha was renowned for her self-control. Her job as Critical Care Coordinator put her in a position where everyone depended on her to stay cool and level headed in any crisis. She never let them down. Now, all Sam wanted was the opportunity to tell these people why she’d done what she had, to explain what had driven her to explode like that. She’d never meant to cause all this commotion. However, she had to admit, the sensation of her clenched fist connecting with Dr. Lescher’s face had been delicious and went a long way to salve the grief and frustration which felt like they would crush her. Obeying the summons from the hospital’s administrator, she’d arrived at his office expecting to be disciplined. She accepted that. But during all this loud discourse, why hadn’t anyone spoken about the patient? What about the dead woman whose husband and children left the hospital in shock and were just beginning their period of mourning? What about them?

"I wonder if this qualifies as burnout?" Samantha Paige would never have believed she would get fired from her position as Critical Care Coordinator for the hospital. Of course, she never considered the possibility that she would sock a pompous, inept surgeon in the puss, either. But, that’s exactly what had happened.
Desperate for some peace and quiet, she flees to her loving Uncle Rufus and the beautiful farm nestled in the hills south of Nashville near the historic town of Franklin, Tennessee, where she had spent the happiest moments of her life.
Upon her arrival, she comes face to face with TJ Carter, the handsome, driven Civil War historian. He is president of the Civil War battlefield preservation association and is fighting to protect the remains of the Franklin Battlefield from commercial development. Her uncle’s farm is the key piece of land wanted by both sides. What neither she nor TJ recognize is the lengths to which the unscrupulous developer, and the nefarious men backing him, are prepared to go to get what they want.
The attraction between Sam and TJ is immediate and powerful, and the last thing that Sam thinks she wants or needs. She struggles to resist TJ’s assaults on her resistance. As the passion she feels for him spirals out of her control, she finds herself fighting at TJ’s side not only for the land, but also for their very lives.
About the Author
Cindy Ziperman lives in Indianapolis, Indiana with her husband, Don. A graduate of Indiana University, she is a Registered Nurse who, throughout her nursing career, specialized in cardiovascular surgery. Enchanted by stories of her great-grandfather who fought for the Union Army in the Third Indiana Cavalry, she began her study of the history of the American Civil War when she was ten years old. She continues her study to this day, and is dedicated to the preservation of precious Civil War battlefields threatened by commercial development. Co-author of the suspense/thriller PASSWORD: DEATH, she is presently at work on her third novel, GRAVE HARVEST.
