"Can you tell me a little about the cottage and how much the lease would cost?" "Well, it’s not been lived in for a few years. Old codger who was the gardener for the big house in front lived there and he died. It needs some paint and a bit ‘o new furniture, but... did you say it’s just you, missy?" "Yes, I’m... I’m here to do some research of the Suffolk area and thought Kersey would be a good place to live." "Like I said, it’s a bit in need ‘o cleanin’ up, but we can do that for ya’. The lease would have to be for at least six months and it’s 250 pounds a month." She quickly figured that would be about $400 dollars a month in American money. A bit more than she wanted to spend, but if it was the right place she would take it. There couldn’t be that many places to rent in such a small village. "Would it be possible to see it this Tuesday or Wednesday, sir?" " ‘Spose so. What time you be wantin’ to get in?" Trying to collect her thoughts, she said, "Well, I’ll be coming by train to Sudbury on Monday afternoon. I understand you can only get to Kersey by taxi or car." "That’s right. But my office is not far from the train station and I can pick you up and take you out there Monday. Won’t take but about fifteen minutes to drive it." "Oh, that would be wonderful. I’ll call you from the train station. My name is Patti North and I’m staying in London this weekend at the Tramore. Thank you, Mr. Abbott." "Right. See you on Monday," and he hung up. She felt so happy to be making some progress on this exciting adventure. Her mind raced on with thoughts of having her very own little house... even if it was leased. She could make curtains, rearrange furniture, gather firewood, and not have to ask Marian or any of the Norths if it suited. The freedom she felt was overwhelming and she loved every minute of this new experience.

About the Book

About the Author
Carol Sue Ravenel is a veteran sales and marketing executive in the hospitality industry, and now works part-time as a bookseller. Combining her love of England and her travel experiences, she has woven the The Kersey Cottage, and the soon-to-be-published Finding Cyn . . . into cottage stories to enchant the reader. Set in the small southeast Suffolk County village of Kersey, the two novels span the decades from World War II to the present, as the characters share with you their hopes, disappointments and joy. Ms. Ravenel resides in Roswell, Georgia with her husband.
