Jacob then mentioned the unhappy marriages of his brother Esau with the two non-believing wives, which is the reason he chose to stay single for the time being. However, his mother told him it is time he should go and look for a bride in an area where there might be women more suitable to him and his parent's likes. At that moment Rachel and Leah, who sat next to each other at the table, kicked each other's knees but their faces remained still. Then Jacob told them about the incident of how he connived the birthright away from his brother Esau and the trouble that he is in right now because of it. However, Jacob told them of his significant angelic dream that God would still be with him in spite of it all. He concluded that he left home for two reasons; to get away from his angry brother and his wives who feel they got cheated out of their inheritance, and because his parents want him to get a suitable wife who would care for them in their olden days with tender hands. Laban rubbed his short beard and thought about all this silently. So, he is a refugee, I hear no money jingling in his pocket. What might he have for a brideprice? Does he want us to help him find a woman around here? Where will he stay? Where will he work? He obviously cannot go home or his brother will most likely kill him.... Finally, Laban said to Jacob, "You are my own flesh and blood, you stay here, you are welcome." A great "lump" disappeared from Jacob's heart. Jacob smiled, bowed his head slightly toward Laban and thanked his uncle and said. "I am looking forward working for you, Master Laban."

Leah was known by many as the ignored older sister of the Bible's beautiful Rachel and the apparently unloved wife of the patriarch Jacob. Due to popular belief though her life was more than a dismal, useless existence. Underneath the short account of her life in the Bible was a woman who dealt with many of the issues women face today, rejection, loneliness and control. This is her story in the form of a novel.
About the Author
I have been married for thirty-nine years to the same gentleman. We raised six well-adjusted children who are, in my opinion, a blessing to today's business climate and the working world. One son went into the Christian ministry after working as a scientist for a time. We always go to church and I love to listen to challenging sermons. I noticed that pastors often mention Abraham or his sons from the Old Testament of the Bible (the Jewish Torah). However, some other events in the lives of these patriarchs are mentioned seldom, some never. Some episodes are not suitable for young children. I am stepping into this vacuum because I love to read about conflicts. However, since we are not to add or subtract from the Bible, I am stepping into it and am supplying the missing links that surely were there. My story slips to the level of a novel. I was born in a farming area before electricity was installed there and can still remember how it was "in the olden days." Romantic love was not always a necessary ingredient for marriage. How might Leah, the first wife of Jacob, have felt? And, can women of today learn from her? This is the message I liked to portray in this novel.
