Thunder rumbled and lightning flashed. The midnight storm howled against the walls of the great castle. Princess Miri woke suddenly, sat up in bed, and looked around her room. Everything was in perfect order. Her doll collection sat on top of her dresser along with her jewelry boxes and hair ribbons. Her stuffed animals sat huddled together on her bookcase which was filled with picture books, fairy tales, stories and scrapbooks. The princess loved reading stories about children having adventures, talking to animals, taming monsters, and winning battles with cleverness instead of swords. Miri often wished that she could have an adventure, but as the king’s only daughter, she was sheltered and protected from any possible danger. Although she was almost twelve years old, she had never even been outside the castle. "Well," thought Miri, "Perhaps when I am Queen, I’ll have an adventure someday." But the princess was about to get her wish sooner than she expected.

As the King’s grip on life weakens by the hour, the young princess must enter the strange and dangerous Forest of Dreams to find the legendary monster whose gigantic teeth may have the secret power to save the King’s life.
About the Author
As a daydreaming cartoonist who doodled his way through high school and college, filling his textbooks with unicorns, griffins, and dragons, David Sokoloff is no stranger to the realms of fantasy. A native of suburban Chicago, he has written comic strips for newspapers, greeting cards for Hallmark, commercials for radio, and a variety of stories, poetry, and songs. Mr. Sokoloff lives in Chicago with his wife, Lilly, son Tuvia, and more books than most people have seen outside a public library. This is his first full-length fairy tale.
