Jake wanted a more exciting job and would often daydream about being a firedog! But the fire fighters in town had only hired Dalmatians in the past with cool names like Sparky and Smokey. Jake knew that he would probably never get to work at the fire station because he is a blue heeler with a common name. Jake's best friend, Rusty, is a red dachshund. He has an exciting job. He works as a mining-dog, who digs tunnels looking for gold! "Everyone has an exciting job but me," Jake thought. One day, Rusty overheard his mining partners talking about a job opening at the fire station for a new fire dog and that no one in the Dalmatian family was interested in the job. Rusty raced over to tell Jake the exciting news. Jake wasn't sure what to think. "Why would Sparky leave such a great job?" Jake wondered.

About the Book
In 1987, I was working as a Fire Chief’s Secretary for a fire/ambulance service when the idea for my children’s book was developed. My husband, Marc, was working as a paramedic at the time that I was working at the station; and, Marc had a similar dilemma to that of Jake--the main character of Jake’s Dream Job--during the shifts he pulled with the firemen. I carried the story around in my head for ten years before I began to write it out on paper. As I was writing the story, I decided to use my own pets as the main characters in my book because they are such funny characters in real life.
About the Author
I am currently working on my Bachelor of Science
Degree in Psychology with a minor in Business/Office Technology. Before this, I worked as an Executive
Secretary for a Warden of a state prison in Oklahoma as well as an
Administrative Assistant to a group of E.R. Physicians. Most of my job experience has been as a
government employee in the area of secretarial-type duties, including serving
as the Fire Chief’s Secretary of a city municipality in 1987. This is when the inspiration for my
children’s books began.
