About the Book
White Hats and Blue Water
Richard Edward O'Brien is "Reo," who wants to be a man. As he travels the world looking for the excitement he has read about in stories, he must overcome the everyday problems of growing up.
During the four years he is in uniform, he discovers love and heartache, strength and weakness, glory and shame, and most important, the guilt and loneliness of being a boy in a man's uniform.
About the Author
Kerry Lewis is a lot like the main character, Reo. Born in St. Louis and raised on a farm in the Ozarks by elderly relatives, he joined the Navy at age 17 in search of adventure and to see the world. He struggled with rules and regulations, peer pressure, and a desire to succeed in a totally strange environment. He soon discovered that wearing a uniform doesn't make you a man, but meeting the challenges of military life and learning your own strengths and weaknesses were building blocks for character. Kerry and his wife, Lynn, reside in the Ozarks where he continues to write and share time with family and friends. He is the co-author of Polyphony and author of Straight from the Heart, both books of poetry, as well as several short stories.
