About the Book

Does God exist? Is there life after life? Do spirits exist? These questions form the framework to the real life story of private detective Howie Comen and his thirteen-year search for missing South Carolina Highway Department bridge inspector Ralph Terry Griggs.

The search takes Comen to internationally known trance medium Elizabeth Baron, the spirit of fourteenth century nun, St. Catherine of Siena, Mickey Spillane, Walter Cronkite, hassidic rabbis, the Vatican, Geraldo Rivera, Presidents Clinton and Bush and the Vince Foster suicide/murder investigation.

Comen moves from clue to clue as his simple missing person case develops into a local, then statewide, and finally a national corruption investigation. Comen also draws from fragments of his own Jewish upbringing as well as the religious perspectives of all of the religions of all of the people he encounters in what turns into a personal search for truth.

About the Author

Howard G. Comen is a Connecticut native who earned his degree from the University of South Carolina in 1971. While at Carolina, Comen designed the Student Night Patrol for the State of South Carolina after several women were raped on campus. After receiving numerous awards for his program, Comen received a Carnegie Institute grant.

After graduation, Comen moved to Charleston and founded the Comen Detective Agency.

Comen’s activities in the Private Detective field and in the fields of sports and education have been featured in many local and national newspaper and television reports and newscasts. Some of his more famous cases include the investigation into a missing bridge inspector that unearthed mounds of corruption in both the Highway Department and its contractors in the late 1980’s; the investigation of a missing interior decorator that became a murder investigation in the late 1970’s; and the investigation of the suicide of a well known government official in the 1990’s.

The Comen Detective Agency specializes in Divorce and Missing Person cases. We also investigate automobile accident cases, Workman’s Compensation cases, criminal cases and Insurance fraud. The Comen Detective Agency currently has five licensed investigators.
