About the Book

Mandy Saves the Day, a rhyming children's story, was originally written in a big book format for a class project in Early Childhood Literature. The book is currently used to teach kindergarten and first grade students about manatees and endangered species.

Mandy the manatee, the main character, must be brave and determined as she tries to save her fish friend who is swept out to sea. The story encourages a discussion of different characteristics of animals. Its underlying message is one of tolerance and respect for differences in all living creatures.

About the Author

As an environmental educator for the past twenty years, I have shared my love of marine life with students in many diverse capacities. I currently work as an education director for a marine educational outreach company that I started with my husband. We conduct hands-on programs with live marine animals to teach students about the fascinating creatures that inhabit South Florida. I am working on my doctorate in education with an emphasis in Curriculum and Instruction at Florida International University. Through my work, I hope to help children gain an understanding and respect for nature.
