Admiral Blintz exploded into incoherent profanity. General Carter stared fixedly at Doc. "How did you find out we have any plans at all for Mars?" he demanded. "That information is so secret there isn't any classification for it." "I told you, I overheard it while I was listening to the Chinese planning . . . " "Dammit, you're talking nonsense," bellowed the admiral. "Now tell us who leaked the information to you before I personally take you apart." "I've been trying to tell you that your secrets don't matter, since the Chinese already know them. What I'm trying to get through to you is . . . " "You've got nothing to get through to us," the admiral shouted. "We're the ones conducting this investigation." "But the Chinese . . . " "Damn the Chinese!" The admiral's face had become a dangerous mauve. "And how do you know so much about what the Chinese know?" General Carter demanded. "I told you, I went to Beijing a couple of nights ago on my way back from watching the full moon on the Taj Mahal, and . . . " "Damn! Damn! Damn!" Admiral Blintz broke in. "Stop these cock-and-bull stories and get down to how you cracked the tightest security system in the history of mankind." "I haven't cracked your security, I got it from the Chinese, and I'm trying to tell you that they're going to get to Mars ahead of you and turn it into an armed base for them and a low-gravity factory complex for the Japs." "Nonsense! You're a spy, and I'm going to get . . . " "One moment, please, Admiral." General Carter said. Then he turned back to Doc. "Now, just tell me again exactly how you got to Beijing." "With my detached mind." "Your what?" "My mind. I have learned how to detach my mind from my body and to go wherever I wish, leaving the body behind in an apparent trance." "Hogwash!" The admiral seized Doc's shirtfront. "Let me shake the truth out of him." Once again he was restrained, and Doc continued. "Let me prove it to you."
